Aqua Wallpaper

My mom is redoing her dining room and wants to put up a wallpaper in a blue or aqua color. We had our choices narrowed down to:

Cole and Son's Hummingbird

Osborne and Little's Asuka

Romo's Lasari

Zoffany's Cherry Blossom

Cole and Sons Egerton

Cole and Son's Tulip Tree

My mom's heavily leaning toward Romo's Kimura in Alpine.

Here's a wider shot in a different colorway.

The paper is going to look amazing, but it will be a bit of an investment. If you want something graphic and unexpected on your walls, but can't afford wallpaper, I think this project from This Old House via Mrs. Limestone is the perfect alternative. I am so crazy about this and wish that I had smooth enough walls to try it!

You can use their pattern for this project or trace over your favorite fabric or wallpaper sample. (The possibilities are endless!)

The basic idea is to make a grid over your traced pattern and on your wall(s) with a chalk line, then start drawing!

So cool, right?

  1. I removed the wallpaper from my dining room many years ago, but it wasn't as pretty as any of these choices. I do like a bit of pattern in the dining room.

I think that the Osborn & Little paper is in the foyer of Blair's townhouse in Gossip Girl. I did a post a long time ago on sconces, which the Gossip Girl designer read, and it has become a Q&A forum for people wanting to know where to find things on the set. Here is what the designer wrote:

The wall covering in the hallway is from Osborne and Little. We love using their papers on the sets because they have classic designs in a modern scale.

I think this describes many of the papers you are looking at!

  6. That would be an amazing project, a lot of work & patience but the finished product would be a work of art!

  8. I was going to use Osborne and Little Asuka paper in my dining room. We ended up having to return our dining set and now it's an empty room again so I don't want to paper without knowing what furniture I'm going to pick.

I do love that pattern though even though it is pricey!

Out of all the choices I'm in love with the hummingbird paper, but they are all beautiful.

  10. I vote for the humming birds or the cherry blossoms... I like the additional color in both of those... obviously you'll have to tell us what she chooses.

  11. I love that paint treatment! The wallpaper is beautiful too.

  12. I did that paint treatment on my walls specifically because they were so bad. The people who owed the house previously had done major reno very poorly and you could see where doors and windows used to be...not anymore. It is a lot of work but well worth it. I used colors from my carpet, and did not do a mottled effect when painting like the project notes state. Love it love it love it.
