Pillows with Stripes on the Bias

My beautiful and talented friend Shanna used this $5 cushion cover from the As-Is bin at IKEA to sew her own chevron pillow. She used this tutorial as a reference.

We all know you can buy chevron fabric, but I really relate to the satisfaction that comes with taking on creative endeavors. Guaranteed Shanna will love this pillow longer than if she had purchased the twinkle living pillow or used the Premier Prints fabric. Plus, I love the chunkier scale of the chevron pattern here and I think the quilted/pieced look is fun - looks more like darts or arrows.

There are so many fun ways to piece together striped fabric on the bias. It reminds me of Windsor Smith's chair in House Beautiful,

and this photo from Nicole's blog:

Have a great weekend! Go make something!

So cheerful! That pillow cover would also make an adorable/ afordable dog bed a la the Molly Mutt beds. I've been trying to figure out an easy DIY for a chic dog bed cover and this just might be it.
Great post Jenny!

I just dropped off some red and white stripe ($3.99/yd) from Fabric World in ATL--ooo, that should make it on your directory if it's not on there already--to be made into an asymmetrical chevron pillow for our vacation rental. I hope it turns out! :)

Love your blog!

I agree--the darts make it, and give some depth to the print. Fantastic job, Shanna!

LOVE that! I bought the same slip cover piece from the Ikea as-in bin and sewed a beach tote with it (http://lifeisartislife.wordpress.com/2010/03/11/first-sewing-project-beach-totes/). I wonder if I have enough leftover to do a chevron pillow too... :)

Hi Jenny! Thanks for sharing that pillow - I love the geometric and quilted feel it gets too!

The last photo posted is a photo I took from our trip to New York, not Lonny. Just thought I'd let you know. Here's the link to the blog post:

LOVE IT! I must admit, not only did I buy the chevron print from premier fabrics (its on a banquette at my kitchen table, shown on my blog- fivestarfinds.blogspot.com), and I also bought the navy and white patchwork pillows on etsy...love them both!

This is a terrific and clever idea. I have added a bit of Chevron to my house in the form of a rug and love it!

Got a thing for all the stripes? I like it. The illusion that it gives is lovely.

Hi, I'm one of your regular readers and a first-time commenter. I too love chevron. PLease check out my post where I use it in a bookcase.
http://allaboutvignettes.blogspot.com/2011/02/styling-bookcases-part-2.html. I also used it for draperies in my son's room.

Thanks for taking a peek.

I also really appreciate people giving creative thought to personalize things from big box stores. Sure, the time spent may mean the end cost is equal to or higher than buying something already made, but it's the recognition of cretivity that gets design enthusiasts excited!
