Watercolor Wallcoverings

 photo IMG_0627.jpg

Since I have abstract painting techniques on the brain, I've been dying to recreate a version of this French-made wallcovering from Elitis that looks exactly like hand-painted silk. Could that red-pink-coral color combo be any more perfect?

I spied the paper hanging in a dressing room at Neimans and could barely take my eyes off its gorgeousness long enough to try on my clothes. For something so intense, I found the pattern oddly dreamy and soothing.

I'd love to try to recreate the look for the inside of my closet. Wouldn't that be pretty? I'd feel like I was shopping at Neimans every day! ;)

PS Remember this nursery with its ikat fabric wallcovering?

  1. That IS so beautiful and appealing. I can totally relate to being distracted by inspiring surroundings, and I am all the time. I was once so taken in by art in the Nordstrom dressing rooms, and my friend totally didn't get it. I appreciate knowing I am not alone!

  2. You might take a look at Shanan Campanaro's wallpapers and fabrics at Eskayel. She has some beautiful dreamy papers too.

  3. Looks like raw silk or a shantung textile vs. paper. Love how happy it is. So much better than a drab dressing room.

  7. Do it! And keep pictures of the progress for us. I learn from mistakes. Is there some way to layer tissue paper? Good luck. Ann

  12. I just added fabric to the walls in my closet because it was cheaper than the expensive wallpaper that I really wanted. I only have it between shelves so it was easy to apply. I used a coordinating paint on the full walls. I love it.

  13. Have you seen the watercolor wallpapers from Black Crow Studios? They are insanely beautiful. First spotted one of their designs in this Robert Passal-designed showhouse bedroom (http://pinterest.com/pin/226376318740184060/). Definitely on my fantasy wish list.

  17. I saw that wallpaper again at the Andrew Howard website, and he used it in a bedroom, so he must have thought it was dreamy too. I really like the colors and patterns he put with it.

(You'll have to scroll through several pics to get to it; it's probably 10 or 12 photos in, at least.)
