Fancy Chalkboard

Remember this favorite mirror-turned-chalkboard of mine?

I've been looking for a good frame to try and copy the look.

I think this one (on sale at JC Penney for $119) just might do the trick. Except, I'd get rid of the tacky "gold" and paint the frame dove gray, which would look great against the black of the chalkboard paint.

  2. What a great idea. I also love your little girl's room....and the rug is super cute.

  3. What would be the best way of painting a frame like this, with irregular edges, so you don't get any paint on the mirror itself?

  4. Hi Zoe,

It depends on how the frame is built. Obviously, the easiest way is to pull the glass out and then you can be as messy as you want with just the frame!

Recently though I painted a large floor mirror for our master bedroom. The glass was built into the frame (like it is in most heavy pieces), so I carefully made a border where the glass meets the frame with 2" thick blue painters tape. That way I could really coat the frame well and cover all the old finish.

All that said, paint comes off glass really, really easily, especially AFTER it's dried. A little windex helps the stubborn spots too.

    Hope that helps!

  5. Thanks Jenny for the quick answer! I might buy this very same mirror for my bedroom and paint it turquoise or green.
