So what do you think I remembered when I saw these stumps for sale in the Pottery Barn catalog?
The red stumps! Remember when they featured Elena Columbo's small beach cottage?
I think a pair of PB stumps (or go find your own fallen tree and start hacking) and a quart of oil-based paint in a gorgeous, unexpected color - like red, mustard yellow or turquoise - would be amazing paired underneath an entryway bench.
My photoshop skills are not the best, but here's a doctored image to help give you an idea .

Those particular stumps look like tiny tree people, and would therefore terrify my kids (and let's face it, me). But I see where you're going with the bright color on a natural piece.
ReplyDeleteI was a Blueprint fan too!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd although I don't remember the "stump" feature, I LOVE your idea & that perfect terquoise color, fantastic. Now, if I can just remember where I put that chainsaw...
: - )
I was just looking at that article from Blueprint yesterday!! I loved that beach bungalow, and that magazine.
ReplyDeleteDid you know those red stumps are real trees she lacquered bright red? How creative!
You have the best taste. I love your ideas!! Thanks for all the work you put into this blog!

You are right! And there is a fallen tree in my garden right now. I am afraid of a chainsaw, though.
ReplyDeleteBut do you think this might work in a garden? Maybe using some sort of outside paint in a pale turquoise or maybe a magenta to offset all the green of the jungle like garden?
How cool! I think it must be lacquer...matte simply would not do.
ReplyDeleteLove them..I am off to the the woods to find some stumps...I would love to paint them bright blue.
ReplyDeleteI love the stumps. I've been wanting some for a while now and now I love your idea of painting them. My neighbors recently chopped down a big tree - I wonder if they'd be willing to part with some of it . . .
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to find a fallen tree to chop up! I guess the pottery barn ones can be my back up?
Thanks for the great idea!
love this idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted this, bc I have all the Blueprint mags, but I don't remember this feature at all. You've inspired me to pull out all the (8?) issues to see what else I missed!
ReplyDeleteCool! Love these!
ReplyDeleteI see stumps often around here in Indonesia but usually they are in their natural color/state...I love the photo here of the red stumps!! Thanks for sharing!
