Hi friends,
How was your weekend? I'm starting to feel better and was able to get some progress done on my dining room.
I was talking to one of my girlfriends on the phone yesterday while I was painting my china hutch. I was telling (well, complaining to) her about how hard it is for me to sleep at night lately, no matter how tired I am. I shared that I'm a little stressed out about how fast this pregnancy is going by. I'm in the third trimester already, I don't feel prepared for her arrival and we definitely have not decided on a name yet. And to be honest, since this is our third daughter, I'm a little tapped out on girls names.
I saw this post on Sugar City Journal, and I was inspired to ask my stylish readers for their input. What are your favorite girls names? To give you a sense of our style, our favorites right now are
Evelyn
Annelise (or maybe just Elise?)
Vivian
Margot
Lillian
ALSO: does anyone know where I can get this exact bookcase? It needs to be wall-mounted.
It's from PB Kids but nearly 10 years old. It's no longer on their website. Looked on eBay, and the closest I could find was http://cgi.ebay.com/Pottery-Barn-Kids-WHITE-Farmhouse-Bookcase-Book-Shelf_W0QQitemZ160367104906QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item25569fd38a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 but it is not wall-mounted... Such a great piece. Will keep my eyes open!
ReplyDeleteMartha Stewart has a how-to: http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/making-childrens-bookshelves?
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny,
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I have a similar problem with girl names, but Evelyn is the ONLY girl name that has made the list so far for next baby.
Good luck choosing!
I'm in week 34 now, and we're having the same struggle. Our first daughter's name is Indie Othilie, so we wanted a name that goes with that.
ReplyDeleteOur list at this stage is:
Billie Josephine
Saga
Freja
Wilma
Neither are very common, but my name isn't either, and I've grown to really love it. I also like Willa, but it means house in Norwegian, so it would be pretty strange to call her that.
I like Annelise on your list. It's actually a pretty common Norwegian name, and it's very beautiful.
Good luck, and I hope your pregnancy is going well!
dagny
i love your blog! anyway, since i have this thing with gemstone names, i'd go with ruby, jade, sapphire, opal, coral, pearl? but i also like vivienne or lulu :) good luck with your pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMS has a great DIY post. Love all your names - Margot is my fave. Good luck w/your decision!
ReplyDeleteFran
Love the names in your line-up, especially Lillian or Vivian! We have a boy and hope to try for a girl soon because I'm dying to have one, we already have chosen her name too...Ruth Eden! Congrats on your pregnancy and I hear you on the fatigue...try and squeeze some naps in! Your almost there!
ReplyDeleteAny of the names you're looking at would be beautiful but since you asked, I like Margot, Lillian and Elise (I had Elissa on the short list for my twins), and I dreamed one baby was named Ruby (which I love) but once they were born and I saw their little faces, I just knew they were simply Sara and Grace.
ReplyDeleteGood luck choosing a name. No pressure there, huh?
Enjoy your last trimester!
Andrea
If I had a third girl I'd go with Charlotte (Charlie for short) or Nina. I'd love to design your birth announcements when the little pumpkin arrives!!
ReplyDeletePottery Barn Kids has a similar one, this one is discontinued.
ReplyDeleteSadie, Emilia, Leigh, Claire, Vera, Lyla.
I love baby names. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a Bella Josephine + Clara Elizabeth (Clara Beth is what we call her most of the time).
In hindsight, I wish I had gone with Belle, instead of Bella, because I was unaware of the twilight hype + how common the nickname was for Isabella.
I love Evelyn from your list. LOVE. I have a very close friend who has an Emalyn, which is sweet and not heard of very often.
I love Adelaide, Ruby, Ruth, Isla, Eleanor, Willa + Alice. I could probably go on + on. :) Have you ever heard of a website called Nymbler.com? You can plug in your favorite names + they give you suggestions back. I love it. Also the Baby Name Wizard is one of my favorite naming books ever. :)
Good luck naming! I just recently found your blog + really enjoy it.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. And thank you for sharing your amazingly creative ideas. What do you think of Esther?
ReplyDeleteWell, I second someone's post about the name "billie," since it's my name :-). But I do get pegged for a boy a lot (my full name is actually Billie Jo). But it's nice having a name that not too many people have. I l ove Annelise. A friend of mine named their daughter, Vienne. And another thought...have you considered Jillson? Could call her Jillsie for short.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Hi Jenny
ReplyDeleteI am 36 weeks pregnant and it is a difficult thing the name game. We love Charlotte (Lottie) for short and Arabella.....
Hi ~ I have twin girls named Olivia and Mia. I have always wanted to have more girls bc I have so many girls names that I love: Brooke, Mallory & Ava are some of my other faves. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWe had Lillian, Vivian and Evelyn (Evie) on our girl name list for our third. All of them were family names, and we chose Lillian Parrish, but we ended up having a boy so it was all for moot! Love the names though.
ReplyDeleteI just read the other blog. How could I forget Eloise?? It's one of my all time favorites. It would be my third daughters name if we ever had another. I love, love, love it.
ReplyDeleteHi there, I LOVE your blog & thanks so much for sharing all of your awesome ideas! Congrats on your pregnancy too! I love Evelyn, Vivian, Annelise (although it may get mispelled often - just something to consider?) but Margot is probably my favorite so that would be my top pick. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteFrom your list of names, I love Evelyn! Ruby and Annabelle are two of my favorites. Girls names are so hard we struggled to name our sweet Marley!
ReplyDeleteBookshelve, have you thought about making one. I had my husband make something similar a few weeks ago and it was so quick and easy. You can find a pic on my blog.
Good luck with both.
I'm a big fan of: Adia, Addison, Madeline, Bridget, Sophie, Josephine, Isabelle and Emma.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your pregnancy. For my first pregnancy I had a long list of girls names but had a boy. The only name that survived on my list when I had a daughter 2 years later was Eva. So Eva she is!. After reading other replies, I have to say that I like Margot.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Zoe which I love. It means life.
ZoeB
My girl names are Vera and Estelle. However, I seem to be on a boy-streak. If I have another boy I'm going to be tapped out on names too.
ReplyDeleteI had to name twin girls two years ago and it almost killed me! LOL
ReplyDelete"The Baby Name Wizard" by Laura Wattenberg. It totally changed my life, and was my go-to for my super-sized naming equation. Wattenberg also has a website that follows along the same lines as the book: www.nymbler.com Type in your daughters names, girls only, and you can see pages and pages of names that go "stylistically" with your taste in names. Click on the name and you can see lots of info on it.
Some of the very same names you love were on our list, too. Elise is my favorite and I used it as middle name with one of my daughters. Good luck to you.
Never posted anything before, but LOVE your blog. Thanks to The Washington Post. xoxo
Picking names is so fun!!! My fav girls names are:
ReplyDeleteStella
Ruby
Josie
Sienna
Elle
James Claire
Good Luck!!!
Oh, I Looove all your name choices! So weird that they were all on my list for our last daughter (except for Margot- beautiful name but I knew a Margot once...)my prego sis-in-law is planning on using Evelyn- I love that name but didn't realize it was becoming so popular. I adore the name Annelise- it's my grandmother's 98-year-old sister's name.
ReplyDeleteI've seen similar book shelves on Craigslist, perhaps someone would be interested in shipping it to you? I love the name, Margot.
ReplyDeleteLand of Nod had something similar.
ReplyDeleteHow about Madeline?
i love Evelyn and Annelise. Great ideas! My girlfriend just named her daughter Loretta Faye which I also LOVE!I say bring the old timey names back.
ReplyDeleteMargot is one of my favorite girl names. Have you seen the "Name Voyager"? (link) It's an app that shows you the general popularity of names. Anything Lil-related is skyrocketing in popularity, much like the name "Jennifer" for my generation. Good luck choosing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite on your list is Margot. If I ever have another girl Eliza Paige is going to be tops on mine.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. I also love girls names. After having 4 girls and spending hours upon hours searching for names I've come up with a long list that my hubby doesn't like, but what can you do.
ReplyDeleteScarlett
Ginger
Hazel
Penelope and call her poppy.(We both loved this, but our last name is Porter and when you say it with the last name first is sounds like "port-a-potty".
Frankie
Mazie
Macey
Josie
We named our last baby girl Mirabella Minnie and call her Mira or sometimes Bella or MiMi. It has been a really fun name.
Anyway, I could go on for hours. Girls are so much fun! Good luck finding something that you love!!
Love your list of names. Our daughter is Evelyn Belle and we call her Evie (rhymes with levee) Belle. Both are family names we choose one from each side.
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm a new blog stalker and have LOVED all of your posts so far!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful designs!!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a similar bookshelf (but smaller) from New Arrivals, Inc. Many blessings on your last trimester! It does fly by...All of your names are beautiful. You won't go wrong with any of them.
PB kids is my guess, check Land of Nod too. Jenny what about Parker or Eleanor for girl's names?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite names for a girl are
ReplyDeleteabigail kate
sadie
elle
elliot
annabelle
chloe
paige
:)
I LOVE your blog. Thank you for being so willing to share your talents with the rest of us! You have inspired me greatly.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog off of Katy McGee's (we went to HS together) and I've kept up with it since!
Anway, we named our daughter Evelyn Sophia and it couldn't be more perfect. That's my vote! I love that it's feminine and classic.
I love Penelope, but call her Poppy!
ReplyDeleteI like names that end with 'ly' or 'leigh'.
Blakely
Brynnly
Breely
Another Idea to get those skinny bookselves is to take gutters(that go on your house), they have may different styles, and place them on the wall. They have the end caps you can up on the egdes so your babies will not hurt themselves. Good luck(with both decision)!
Within the past several months, the number of people I know who have named their girls Lillian/Lily is practically in the double digits. With that said, I would probably choose something else. I totally feel for you on how hard it is to pick a name! It was really hard for us too!
ReplyDeleteLove the name Vivian! Other favorites are Helen, Stella, Faye, Clare, Eleanor, Eloise, Jane, Laura, and the list could go on.
ReplyDeleteJulia
I love those names. My favorite is Elinor (the spelling from Sense and Sensibility), and I plan to use it IF we ever have a girl! I really like the nickname Ellie.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
ReplyDeleteGeorgia
Lila
Lydia
Alegra
I didn't realize I liked names that end in "a" until I just typed them out!
LILLIAN RUTH has been my favorite name forever and ever.
ReplyDeleteI hope you pick Lillian
Here are a few that I love (that I think fit with your style):
ReplyDeleteMarian
Joselyn (or Jocelyn)
Livia
Good luck!
My daughter's middle name is Elise... I love that name so that is my vote, but I like ALL your choices.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a wall-mounted bookcase like that too. My friends who have similar ones all say theirs are hand-me-downs.
ReplyDeleteMy girls' names are Sophie and Sarah. I also like Olivia, Claire, and a friend's daughters are named Hannah and Emme, which I also like.
Love your blog. Have fun choosing a name and congrats!
Hi- I have 3 girls too!! Lots of drama.... My middle child is named Carter. Very unusual for a girl and different. Good Luck
ReplyDeleteWe had good luck naming our 2nd daughter with the Baby Name Wizard book:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_1_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=baby+name+wizard+2009&x=0&y=0&sprefix=baby+name+w
I like Margot, but I also like,
ReplyDeleteCorinne
Yvette
Maura
I recently had a girl and named her Corinne. This is the traditional French spelling. But there are many variations.
I don't know if the popularity of the name matters to you. I suggest that you visit this site: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
ReplyDeleteIt will tell you the popularity of the names you like. If you are like me you don't want your kido to go through school with 10 kids with the same name.
P.S. I like Margot
Ashlyn.............love it
ReplyDeleteI am a newbie to your blog....love your style...
ReplyDeleteCongrats and hope you're having a good pregnancy...
My Mum is Lillian, twins run in our family so I always had the names Lillian and Jillian in mind...
My brother named his girl Charlotte and they call her Charly for short...
I named mine Jacquleen Marie/Jacqui for short.
I adore Margot, Lily & Addison...good luck !!
All the best,
Kathy :)
I've been reading your blog for a little while now and didn't even know you were pregnant. I guess with this being the third time around, you are a pro at it! I just wanted to share a few of my favorite girl names on the some-day-if-I-have-kids-list :)
ReplyDeleteLayla
Marelle (which is a combination of my name and my sisters (Mary & Michelle)
Emma Jayne
Good luck picking out a name!
Leigh
ReplyDeleteClaudia
Mae
Abigail
Anna
Agnus (too much?)
Rachel
P.S. I love your blog! I am so inspired by it. I am trying to figure out how to upholster a headboard using your ottoman and headboard posts as guidance.
-Sarah G.
I like the name Laylie or Layly.
ReplyDeleteThat image is from the Martha Stewart site and has instructions for contruction of the bookcase.
ReplyDeleteOur favorite girl names are Abigail Elizabeth (Abbey), Niamh Amelia (pronounced like it rhymes with leave--an old Irish name), and Elliot. We haven't figured out a middle name for Elliot yet.
ReplyDeleteLand of Nod (the Crate & Barrel kids line) also has wall mounted book racks. I like the look of them better than the PB Kids, but they are significantly smaller.
Evelyn and Vivian were two names on our list for our daughter. I think they sound so old fashioned and lovely. We ended up using Catherine Jane, but I think these two are great choices.
ReplyDeleteRenee.
ReplyDeleteAfter me.
But if you don't love that, I guess I like Margot. : )
We had a hard time naming our third girl as well. Our names are Isabel, Lucy and Nelle (rhymes with Belle). Good luck!
ReplyDeletei like lillian. also, i knew an anneli (pronounced like 'anna-leigh'). i think it's very pretty. and similar to annelise. i think annabel is pretty, too.
ReplyDeletei've heard others recommend introducing yourself as the name you're considering, to see how people respond and to decide if you really like it.
i know others have mentioned it, but the baby name wizard site is fun. http://www.babynamewizard.com/
I love the names Annelise and Margot. My favorites are Lila (my daughter's name) and Karina (her middle name). I also love Ryan, Amelia, Greta, and Helene.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Margot. I also loe Marlo. One of my coworkers has the prettiest name, Olivianna. Charlotte is another. Then u can call her Lotte or Lottie for short.
ReplyDeleteMy daughters are named Lida Gertrude and Evana Jane. We used our grandmother's names. this will make it hard for our next one since we have started a trend, but I love their names and no one else has them! so fun, good luck!
ReplyDeletelove love love vivian!
ReplyDeletemy other favorites are collette, & iliza
My Mom's name is Evelyne (with an e on the end), so I considered naming my first girl Eva Lyne. But I am in love with Elsa too. good luck!
ReplyDeletemy current favs are:
ReplyDeletepaige olivia
taylor joy
lauren mae
stella
sophia
brooke
let us know what you decide :)
Remember Veronica Kisby? They had those book cases! They were home made, but looked sooo nice. She got the idea from Pottery Barn. I love the names you have. Josh just got an email from Michael, I was excited to see his name (as I peeked over Josh's shoulder:). If I were lucky enough to have one my girl I would name her one of these:
ReplyDeleteScarlet
Lula
Maeve
Selma or my personal fave'
Marie-Terese and call her Mimi (funny huh?)
When I saw Elise I thought it fit for your family...
ReplyDeleteUmmm. We have our new Mikah baby home (I wanted to spell it Meike- but I let Nate have it on this one...he HATES Meike and I don't hate the spellng Mikah) at any rate...I've been calling her "Mike" for short, I did not intend to, but it just comes out. I wonder if it makes Nate think of Michael J...when I call her that!
Just found your blog and I am loving it! Congrats on your pregnancy and growing family. We have two daughters and are in the process of adopting our third child. Like you, we are fans of classic names. Our daughters' names are Amelia Grace and Elizabeth Noelle, whom we call Ellie. We are not sure if our third will be a boy or girl, but right now I am liking Charlotte Emory. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love Vivian....
ReplyDeleteWhat are your girl's names?
From your list, I would go with Elise....love that name.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, we are 30 weeks pregnant with our first daughter and have settled on Eden Elise.
I love your names, they're less common and so cute.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite suggestion in naming a baby is to go to the census' popular baby name search http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ and look through the less-popular names (I hate when everyone has the same name) or go to a certain year and find the names that were popular then (like 1953). Wouldn't it be cute to have a vintage baby name?
Oh, a little girl! How fun to choose a name! When I was pregnant I had a long list of girls' names I loved and just a few boys' name. Alas, we had a boy. So now I have this lovely list with no one to use it...at least until we have a baby girl of our own. Some of my favorite names are:
ReplyDeleteIris
Ruby
Lillian (LOVE this)
Margaret
Grace
Jane
Anne
Elizabeth
You can't go wrong with classic names.
And yes, I believe PB Kids has this bookshelf or something nearly the same.
Good luck!
Jenny, since so many have recommended the Baby Wizard to you, and I love it as well, here are some of the sister names to the names you suggested. (One thing I love about the book is that it provides suggestions of fitting names for sisters and brothers.) Maybe you have the book, since some of your names are related in this book, but if not, here you go!
ReplyDeleteEvelyn: Marian, Vivian, Rose ,Josephine, Lillian
Annalise: Lisbeth, Julianne, Arabella, Mariel, Renata
Vivian: Marian, Eleanor, Clarice, Violet
Margot: Marianne, Gwen, Janis, Nan, Aurea
Lillian: Clara, Josephine, Eva, Violet, Eleanor
I like Evelyn (Evie for short) or Vivian (Viv), as well as Renata, Gwen, Eva and Violet. A name is a big deal--mine is Barbara but I've always gone by Barbie, which I actually dislike, but what am I to do... Good luck. I love visiting your blog every day.
Elizabeth and Gemma get my top votes. Two of my friends have used my name, Susanna
ReplyDeleteEve. Simple. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAmelia
I know how hard it is to pick names. For our five month old I wanted something elegant but that would stand out. We almost named her Elise or Analise, but we chose a french family name Elodie. It suits her perfectly. Good luck! It will come to you!
ReplyDeleteAbigail is my favorite girl's name of all time. Could not use it with our last name. I also love Adeline and Hope.
ReplyDeleteYour names are all beautiful. I like Lillian the best (Lily for short).
Best wishes to you. Love your blog.
I love your blog and I love the name Vivian but my favorite way to spell it is Vivienne.
ReplyDeleteAngelina Jolie stole it from me, I just know it. ;)
love your blog -
ReplyDeletelove these names:
stella (i know it wasn't one listed - but i LOVE it).
and then i love "lily" versus lillian
my 3 girls are:
clara
ema (whole name is emalyn)
& ella scarlet
hope that helps.
I love those names, but have to say "Evelyn" will always remind me of Kathy Bates' character in Fried Green Tomatoes. eek!
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite family names is Everett. I'm considering eventually using it for a girl and calling her "Evie" (rhyming with heavy).
sime I'm a girl named Dean, I like the idea of girls with boys names.
http://www.mylittleapartment.blogspot.com/
Evelyn, Lillian & Vivian are also on my list for a potential girl baby. So are...
ReplyDeletePenelope
Phoebe
Lorelei
Sylvia
Julian
Anabelle
Sabrina
Daphne
Adelle
Love your blog... have recently started following it. I have a little girl that just turned one - we named her Matilda but she often goes by Tilly (TillyWilly, TillyBelle, Tillerina... and what other names her brother comes up with for her!)
ReplyDeleteMy little sister is Elise, so I am cery partial to that one. I also was going to suggest Mathilda and call her Tilly. One of my very good friends is also on her 3rd girl (with one boy in between) and that is the name she's using.
ReplyDeleteFunny- I can only ever come up with girl names - luckily that's all I've needed so far - Elise and Claire have always topped my list (although we ended up with Virginia and Eleanor) but my new favorite is Beatrice - so classic and beautiful!!! Olive is nice too, Georgia . . .
ReplyDeleteOur oldest daughter is Annaliese with the A pronounced as a soft "o" so that is one of my favorite names. Our other daughter is Eleanora. I love both their names and the meanings.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that bookcase looks like it would be pretty easy to make with a few boards and dowels if you can't locate one!
Blessings,
Hannah
I'm a new reader - came late to the party :), but really enjoying your blog - thank you!!
ReplyDelete1. I like Madelyn
2. On a totally different note - remember the lovely Penguin Classics illustrated by Coralie Bickford-Smith? Who could forget?!? Anyway - they were due to be released today but I can find neither hide nor hair of them online (Watersone's exclusive)...any clues?? I read that you were planning to add the 10 new ones to your collection!
p.s. that red credenza....GENIUS!
my Fav's are
ReplyDeleteGrayson, Avery, Briony, Olive, Mabel and Sadie
I just love baby names... we are pretty far from having kids but I do already have names picked out. :)
ReplyDeleteMy baby girl names are:
- Mona
- Estella (I love Great Expectations)
- Emme
- Sloane (Yup, Erika's new daughter's name! But I've loved this name ever since seeing it on Entourage)
-Blake (my brothers name, but love it for a girl).
I love Vivian from your list!
I think you should name your daughter Bryn (or Brynn) :)
I vote for Evelyn and you can call her Eve! I teach prechool and have not seen this name. We have seen a lot of Lilly's at our school lately.
ReplyDeleteMatilda (or Mathilda). Unusual, but not bizarre, and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your style!
ReplyDeleteThat shelf looks like it would be very easy to recreate.
I love girl's names. Vivian is lovely. Some other ideas would be Mirielle, Camille, or Marcella.
Love your blog!!! Hmm names are tough. I am pregnant too and have three girl names I love. I am having trouble with BOY names..ugh.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn is great. It was my grandmother's name. Evie for short sounds so cute. Good Luck.
Isn't the nesting instinct insane?
lilian. its perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy mom found a similar one for us when my daughter was born and it is Two's Company. Love your names so far. Janie is our daughter's name and I love that it is classic and meaningful (her great-grand's name). Charlotte is pretty. And Caroline. Good luck!! Take care of yourself and try Bath & Body's sleep bath salts:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2784315&cp=2484525.3256884.3256917
Ginger
Annelise or Elise is one of my girl names! I definitely pick that one!
ReplyDeleteI love Margot (!!!) and Annelise. I have a good friend named Anneli and I love that too. I'm pretty obsessed with turn of the century names right now:
ReplyDeleteGeneva (my daughter's name)
Cora
Adelle
Good luck deciding and congrats again on your newest blessing. :)
Elise is one of my daughters middle names, and very pretty I think. Don't know your other daughters' names, but how about Libby (Elizabeth), Nora, Mae, Lainey (Elaine). Oh... there are so many good ones already mentioned. Good luck.
ReplyDeletei love the name Emerson
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother's name is Evelyn so I love that choice. You could call her Evie for short. I have always wanted to name my daughter Evelyn June so that's a good option for you! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite names:
ReplyDeleteAnne
Emily
Grace
Jane
Your names make me think of Wes Anderson movies. So maybe Etheline, Eleanor, or Rosemary?
My favorite girl names are:
ReplyDeleteGrayce
Noelle
Macy
Love your blog!!
I love your choices, our daughter is Charlotte. Caroline was the 1st runner up. Her nickname is Coco because our boys wanted to call her coconut when I was pregnant. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI know at least 5 little Lillies under the age of 2 (Lillie/Lillian). So many in the interest of uniqueness....Love all of the other ones. Margot is high on our list, and Vivian is just lovely. I tried that nymbler suggested by a few folks and just saw "Bette". French-pronunciation or English-pronunciation, it's rather fun!
ReplyDeleteI love this topic! My daughters are Madeline Quincy & Abigail Amelia (middle names are both family names). If I had another girl I would go with Eleanor or Louise.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, you are very inspiring! (plus our desk are the same color)
LOVE that bookcase! My girlfriend has one for her older son and we are having her uncle make us each one using the PB Kids one as a template.
ReplyDeleteI have three little boys but Elise Joy was always on my list, if I had a girl! I also love the name Lila.
Your blog is great! Thanks for all the fun tips!
Hmm. I love the name Milicent, Milly for short.
ReplyDeleteIt can be spelled in many variations and means brave strength.
Good luck.
hey lovely lady! how are you? i'm not sure if i've congratulated you on your pregnancy yet or not, but congrats! another girl, so much fun! you're girls are so darling it's good that you're creating another :) i think the name eloise goes well with your two beauties and then you can call her lulu if you like it. it was a name on my girls list, along with ginger and willow. alas, we're having another boy :) so i'm facing the same challenge...what name in all this world can compete with atticus? i hope you are feeling well. i've been loving following all your beauitful decorating and wish i had a magical basement i could "shop" in too! and the red credenza - breath taking!
ReplyDeleteI also love your blog and check it often. I love very unique and different names. But I also love the name Amilia, Emma or Emily, but I would spell it Emmaleigh. But my daughters name is Haylee, which I love and it fits her perfectly. Good luck finding a name. I know how you feel about not being ready for another baby to arrive. I had my 4th this summer while my husband was in Iraq, and I was beyond stressed and not ready for the baby to get here. But as you get closer things fall into place and the stress will subside. So just try to breathe, relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Because when she gets here, the games begin.
ReplyDeleteCaera (keera)- means friend
ReplyDeleteAdeleine (Addy)
Louisa
Ainsley - means brilliance
Teagan - means beautiful
Geanvienne

Maeve (mave)- means cause of great joy
Siobhan (shevahn)-means God is gracious
I love names with good meanings!
We're expecting our 3rd girl, too (due 3 days ago!!!) and we had the same problem. Actually we still don't know what the name will be, but runner up is Genevieve. I liked any name with a 'V' in it, and Genevieve made the cut (i think.) Also like Maeve, my husband likes Olivia.
ReplyDeleteHow about Alanna or Anabelle? Alanna is one of my favorite names, but doesn't sound too good with my last name unfortunately. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteBeatrice and call her Bea
ReplyDeleteOh my, both of my two daughters' names have been mentioned! First, Eloise, which I adore and hope won't become popular {she's 11}, and Lillian! We call our pumpkin Lily, though.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your sleep problems. I started sleeping on the couch during my 3rd trimester since it helped with sleeping on my sides and also made feel like I was in a cacoon.
ReplyDeleteThose are all beautiful names for girls but Annelise stood out the most. I had a great friend whose name is Annalisa - so beautiful.
Best of luck figuring it all out.
I like Lillian best from your list. I also love Emma as a girl's name. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I just wanted to tell you it makes me happy that you painted while pregnant. I can't tell you how much crap I've gotten for doing that! I always leave all the doors and windows open! yeesh! I lvoe your baby names! I especially love the names Delaney and Eisley. If we have a girl it'll be one of those. =) best wishes!
ReplyDeleteMy two best girlfriends both just had babies last week... And I love both names... Olivia is one, and then the other is Lily! Best of Luck and congrats!!!!

Ellie or Elle
Mariana (the "an" sounds like "on" not "ann")
My favorite from your list is Elise. When I was preggers with my first that was in the running if we had a girl.
You've had so many comments that I hesitate to write - but as the Mother of FIVE little girls (10,8,5,5 and 1)I just had to! My advice is to chose a name with some kind of sentimental value. As my daughters are getting older they love to chat about where their names came from. BTW - my one year old was named by her big sisters. Our family theme song is 'We are family, I've got all my sisters with me' SO sweet!
ReplyDeleteKerry
You have a Grace and a Claire, right? I think Lillian goes best with those. It fits in the trendy-yet-classic category like the other girls' names.
ReplyDeleteI've been lurking about your blog for a short time now, love it. This post hit home with me, and the previous 120 some odd people! I am also in my third trimester (week 30) with a baby girl well, actually, two baby girls. They will make #2 and #3 for us. Hugo is their big brother at the perfect age of 3.5 and he is very excited for their arrival. I also feel a bit shocked at how quickly the time has passed. I just started to paint their nursery. I am crazy and have decided to sew their bedding and make their mobiles. Crazy I tell you. And very, very behind. We are naming the girls Marlo Amalia and Sabine Luvenia. I had liked the idea of Luisa and Hazel for awhile. They just didn't right for my two girls.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Alissa
I'm sure you want my input on names too ....
ReplyDeleteEmma
Olivia
Elizabeth (Lizzie)
Molly
Devon
Charlotte
Chelsea
Scarlett
I'm absolutely sure one of these is a winner :-))
Hi Jenny...I miss you! I'm making some progress though. Glad to know you are feeling better. Love your office! Have you tried Land of Nod for a bookcase? Anyway, I love your names! Vivian (vivi) is so pretty (and Julia robert's name in pretty woman no less) so that's my fave from your list. I also love Violette, Ruby, Emmie, Katie, Callie, Gemma, Estee, Caroline, Madalynne, Summer (i know one and she is a cutie),and Pearl. Hope that helps...feel good xo, Lisa E.
ReplyDeletewell, we have a cleo eve. if the twins had been girls instead of boys we would have gone with adeline, twyla, or elodie. i love your choices, the more old-fashioned the better, i say.
ReplyDeleteI have a Josie Catherine. I'm done with choosing baby names, but I also love Sara and Amelia. I love that you are choosing traditional names.
ReplyDeleteHow about Amelia, Charlotte, Sadie, Lucy or Annie?
ReplyDeleteLOVE your blog!!
ReplyDeleteGirl names are so fun! We have a daughter named Elliot Olivia (we call her Ellie)
but I love:
Reese
Adelle (can call her Elle)
Livie
Hadley
Estee
Genevieve
Vivian
Have fun picking!! Congratulations!
Love your blog.....Evalise is a beautiful name, a combo of a few on your list. My daughter (Phoebe) had a girl in her pre-k class with that name..I LOVED it! Congrats on your 3rd daughter..they're the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly new to your blog. Love it. Had to comment because I've had two boys and four of your names listed were at the top of our list. We also really loved Willa.
ReplyDeletei love my name. :)

My daughter's name is Chloe Arlyn which I think is lovely ;) Other names:
ReplyDeleteEloise

Harper
Lilith
Our daughter is named April. I also like Grace, which our 3rd child would have been named had he been a girl. I have a niece called Ruby, which is also a sweet name.
ReplyDeleteBTW I love your credenza makeover, it has inspired me to be more game with painting furniture.
I've read your blog daily for a few months and I didn't know you were expecting #3. I'm expecting girl #2 this February. Congratulations! I hope you find a wonderful name. (BTW, I'm not sleeping so well either.)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and its one of my daily hits. So to you I give you the gift of my favorite name: Pearl.
ReplyDeleteMy nieces are named Abigail and Amelia... they call the baby Mia for short. Classic but adorable! Good luck on your last few weeks Jenny!
ReplyDeleteI like your name choices a lot actually...classic but not trendy.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the name Sophia (nickname Sophie) but alas it's gotten incredibly popular right now. Also love the name Olivia. Again, similarly popular.
My own name (Averill) is really unique, and that's something I've always liked about it. I'd like to find something similarly different but with some history, (as my name is a family name and I'm not a fan of "made up" names).
Good luck!
i LOVE your blog! over the past two days I have spent hours in your archives.
ReplyDeleteLove all those names, when I was pregnant I was thinking if I were to have a girl I would name her Lillian Sue, Love that name! Love those old names that you don't hear anymore like Betty, Joan, Lucille, etc. ....btw, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteSeems like we have very similar taste in names! Our shortlist included Vivienne and Annalise (or the Swiss version Hannali which I loved and my husband hated). There was also Lily, Ruby, Ava and Georgia. Our older daughter is Ella so all the names that end in "-elle" had to be excluded although there are so many that I love.
ReplyDeleteWe live in France and so you are required by law to choose a name and register the baby within 72 hours of the birth. We dithered over names the entire pregnancy and were literally sitting up at 2 am in the maternity clinic scanning baby name sites on a wifi connection that I had snagged trying to decide. We chose Ruby, told all the nursing staff who proceeded to MURDER the name, forcing us to change to Georgia as my husband was walking out the door to the city hall. The thing that I dreaded has happened- I am constantly calling her George as a nickname. Luckily for me, it doesn't happen in French.
I am pregnant and if it's a girl her name is going to be Vivian Arlene. I've always loved the name Vivian and Arlene is after my grandmother.
ReplyDeleteI have a Lillian who was almost a Vivian :)
ReplyDeleteLongtime Lurker speaking up. My two cents:
ReplyDeleteTess or Tessa
Amelia
Victoria
Gwen
Those all seem to be romantic names in the same vein as what you are already thinking. I love love love Margot, though.
I have a Rachel Helene.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was having a
Meredith Grace.
Instead I got a
Mitchell Reid.
Boys are nice too:)
Vivian and Margot are my favs. I like that the root of Vivian is "life" and I just think Margot is beautiful and matches your decorating taste :)
ReplyDeleteAre you named out yet? My middle name is Claire and I always wanted a Claire Elizabeth. Alas, two boys, no girls. Now I'm campaigning for a granddaughter with either that name or the name Corinne, which I think is timeless and elegant.
ReplyDeletehi there- nothing like a wrapped up little pink thing to bring home from the hospital! i too have 3 little girls. baby names...helena, magnolia, camille i heart evelyn, i have an eve...oh, it's a sweet time- almost over! you're very inspiring! go mama!!
ReplyDeleteHello! Your names are so pretty. I love Ada, Mae, Eloise, Felicity, Darcy, Elinor, Marianne, Madeline, and Grace.
ReplyDeleteLove Vivian and Margot... we just had a little girl in August and named her Charlee. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you need anymore suggestions... WOW... but I am going to share my favorite girl names anyway. I can't help myself:
ReplyDeleteRuth (Ruthie)- our daughter's name
Cecilia
June
Winifred (a family name would have been Winnie)
Jane
Judith
Eleanor
Louise or Louisa
Addie
and Mary with a maiden name is always lovely.
How fun! I am new to your blog and love it.
Hi Jenny,
ReplyDeleteI have never written, but what better post to start than this one ;) I LOVE your blog, and I, too, am starting a third trimester and expecting our third girl.
My favorite name on your list is Annalise, but I also like Lillian (Lilly) and Evalyn (my neighbor's girl is Evalyn, and they call her Eva--very sweet).
We have Madeline Kate and Anna Claire, and this little girl will be Audrey. I am stuck on a middle name, but we have considered Audrey Caroline, Audrey Elise and Audrey Lynna. I just don't know! :)
How about Elsie? I think it is beautiful and transitions from baby to child to adult seamlessly.
ReplyDeleteHow bout Amelia and you can call her "Millie"
ReplyDeleteAll of those names (except Annelise) sound like dames straight out of an old B&W movie. How about Marian, Rosamund, Marcella, Millicent, Cecelia or Helen?
ReplyDeleteLove the blog!
since your other two girls are named the same as my two i think you already have the best names! however, if i was going for another (which i am NOT) i would choose either:
ReplyDeleteGeorgia
Caroline

ReplyDeleteI had to finally post when I saw Laurie's comment...we too have three girls: Natalie, Audrey and Catherine. I loved Vivian when pg with our third, but hubby wasn't crazy about it. Then Brangelina had their Vivienne two weeks later and I was glad we didn't choose it! :)

My mom's name is Vivian, and my name is Lillian... so this post spooked me out! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love the blog! My Grandma's name is Evelyn Mae--one of my top faves. I also love Ginny, Hattie and Nicole.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the pregnancy! I LOVE babies and am beyond thankful that I have tons of friends with tiny ones to satisfy my insatiable need for baby love. With that said, I begged my husband to name our baby girl Jimmie, after my father, with the middle name Katherine. He never gave in...hated the idea. So she's a Katherine Emma instead. Still not a bad choice in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteGirls names;
ReplyDeleteAva

Jen
Jill
Lucy
Tasha

Just plain Betsy...not short for Elizabeth...just Betsy :]
ReplyDeletei just had a baby girl 7 weeks ago and named her Byrdie.
ReplyDeletelove your site.
my mom's name is Anelyse (same name on your list, just a different way to spell) ... I'm crazy about the name. Her close friends and siblings call her "Lyse" (sounds like "leese") or even "Lysee" (sounds like "leesey").
ReplyDeletecute, but not super common. :)

Good luck!
Lydia
ReplyDeleteNaomi
Annika
Good luck!
Sigh, baby naming is one of my most favorite things ever...and I stopped after two boys.
ReplyDeleteGirl names were our favorites, of course. A daughter would have had my middle name (also my mother's): Janeece. I love all the names you have on your list. Our favorites include:
Sabrina
Samantha
Rebecca
Magali (French - we discovered it on the name tag of a worker at EPCOT, LOL)
Good luck with your choice!
We have three girls and they are Paige, Beatrice but we call her Bea, and Virginia Vivian but we call her Ginger. I love all of the names you have in mind but Annelise is so special. We have a dear dear friend with that name and she is just lovely! Good luck! I LOVE your blog and all of your wonderful ideas and projects!
ReplyDeleteJayne
Margot is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who has two girls with adorable names, Poppy and Beatrix. Pippa and Hazel are some other really popular ones over here in England. Good luck!
I love the names you have so far! So I made sure to read everyone's names, so as not to give you a repeat, but I thought of Eden. Classic, but uncommon. It's my nieces name and I've never known another. I think it's darling! We're expecting our first little girl in February and even though we've had our name picked out FOREVER, I still love looking up new names!
ReplyDeleteYou could try a working with a wooden shoe rack. I found one at Goodwill today, it's almost exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteYou could try a working with a wooden shoe rack. I found one at Goodwill today, it's almost exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteI love Eloise (I have a new niece with that name) or you could always go classical with Jane!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the picking!
I adore the name
ReplyDeleteWillow... but our last name is Fellows, so Willow Fellows is a bit of a tongue twister. I have two daughters, Sally and Libby. I like that people know what I am saying when I introduce them, not asking for the spelling to understand.
I love little girl names! A few of my faves:
ReplyDeleteCarrington
Avery
Scarlett
Louise - my grandmother's name
Laurel
Olivia
Garner
Bridget
Good luck!!
claudia is a great name that seems to fit your list...

Vivien Rokah (pronounced like the candy)
looks like a giant spice rack.
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm not sure if you found the bookcase or not. I was looking for the same one for my son's nursery. My husband ended up making one from a couple different designs I found. It turned out great. It didn't take him long either. The one from the MS website was our primary template.
ReplyDeleteJenny,
ReplyDeleteWow! I have just found your blog within the last week and have enjoyed reading it every evening, starting from your beginning posts!
Names...one of my favorite topics.....I am an Eve and love it! We named our daughter Elise Kathleen(but often call her Leecy) I have learned that I really gravitate toward E names....Everett, Emory, Elliot, Emme, Emma, Evan, Ellis, Emma, Eleanor, Eva, (and Ava) etc :) I do LOVE Evelyn also.
