Blogger Flea Market - Would You Come??

I think we've found an apartment. It's pretty awesome, but the reality of city living hit me as we toured the new place last weekend. I wish I was as lucky as Kelly Wearstler, to have a 10,000 sq ft storage room for all my favorite finds...

I've been planning on doing a yard sale here in Delaware, but recently Michael came up with the great idea of a big community sale in a nearby bigger city - where bloggers and readers alike could come together to buy and/or sell their furniture, home items, or anything else home decor related (for all you Etsy sellers out there). I know that I will have at least one moving truck full of furniture to unload.

If I coordinated a large flea market type set-up in July, would you come? Where would you be willing to drive to? (please vote below or leave a comment)

What city should the flea market be held in?

If you're interested in selling, especially, I'd love to get an email from you. I need to start organizing pretty soon if I'm going to make this happen.

It would be SO amazing to get to meet some of you lovely readers!

  1. Jenny: This is brilliant! I was planning on having a tag sale, but I'd hold off if this was going to come to fruition. If it was mid to end July, NYC suburbs, I would definitely commit.

  4. Love this idea! Have you seen the new Decorators Tag Sale that went up a couple of weeks ago? Similar idea, but online. I blogged about it here:

That could be another option for you!

  5. Great idea - but if the organizing proves unpleasantly complicated, you might also consider is getting a space at the Brooklyn Flea (which gets a pretty high-end crowd). Check them out at www.brownstoner.com.

  6. Great idea! I'm in Phila. so that would be ideal but would probably drive to any of these cities if the timing was right! Thanks!

  7. Great idea. I would attend if you come to DC. But, if you don't get enough participation you should just consider driving down to the Sunday DC Flea market in Georgetown. It happens every week. There is also the Eastern Market on Capital Hill which happens every week.

  9. Great idea! If I lived in the near, I would for sure be there. Just did a flea market this weekend in Dallas, TX....but you have my mind mulling over a few ideas I have myself. I'm going to have to "steal" your idea for the Dallas area in July.

  14. Brilliant! Moving overseas this summer & have to get rid of a ton of household items. Already unloaded so much **stuff** to the Salvation Army, et, al. but not willing to hand over my scores. I've got a new Madeline Weinrib flat weave rug, designer fabric, misc furniture, blah, blah blah. July, NYC suburbs has my vote! ~ Inspired Living

  16. Great idea! You can start your own market or sell your stuff at an existing flea market. Here is an article on how to start your own flea market. And here is a big flea market directory of hundreds in the U.S., organized by state. Hope this helps! -- Michael at FleaMarketZone.com.

  30. Count me in! We were planning a tag sale here, but a group sale would be much more fun. Philly and NYC work for me, but DC is a bit far. I have Mongolian cabinets and a teak screen from Chiang Mai, among other things to go.

  31. If you had it in NYC, I'd be there in a flash. That's such a great idea!!

  33. Too bad you couldn't coordinate it with the worlds longest yard sale. When I went last year they had booths you could rent and it was great, we met people from as far as California and Canada. But I would def attend a bloggers flea market for sure!

  41. First off, I think the idea is awesome. I just need to figure out how to get myself from chicago out to the east coast on the cheap.
Second, I saw this image of kelly wearstler's storage space yesterday and I was in awe. Oh, to be able to spend 10 minutes there and see the amazing pieces hiding away!

  42. CALIFORNIA!!! san diego to be exact!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Why the suburbs?! There's lots of places in NYC (brooklyn? long island city?) that could accommodate this where lots and lots and lots of city dwellers could come and shop!

  48. This is such an awesome idea! I'd love to see something like this happen all over the country! I'm in Atlanta, and there are SO many other stylish bloggers and readers in this area too (South Carolina, Tennessee, etc.) Wheels in my head are totally turning on whether this is something that could be done elsewhere. Awesome idea!

  52. any of those places...i mean they aren't that far from one another..
just keep us posted...i would bring up the atlanta bloggers in a big ass uhaul or 7.

  53. I wish I lived closer or was visiting! This would be rad!

  54. I live in Staten Island, and I'd probably travel to any of those places. Believe it or not, I'd rather drive to Delaware than Long Island (horrible roads, terrible traffic) but if Camila of High-Heeled hosts, I may make an exception.

Don't have much to sell, though I'd be tempted to buy stuff so that I could.

  55. I would come to any of these cities! I need some furniture for my new apartment.

  56. Holy CRAP! DC DC DC (actually VA). I can get a TON of people on board. I'll email you under cover but I LOVE this idea and am ALL IN!

  57. Unfortunately I'm not near any of those cities, but if you organized one in NYC right around the time of the big BlogHer conference, I'll be there!
