Sometimes Cheap is Good

I don't always recommend buying cheap stuff. But, you know, sometimes cute and cheap just hits the spot.

CRAZY cheap ikat bedding for folding up at the foot of the bed

Strangely cute bedding from Wal-mart? Perfect for kids rooms.

I went to IKEA a couple of days ago to pick up some curtains for a client. I spotted the Trollsta side table in yellow and liked it.

I like this new gray dresser too. Cool legs.

I'm considering these floral shades for the girls' next room, to layer under drapes.

Don't Billy's look so much better flanked by these sliver shelves and with the lighting? (anything looks better next to Evelyn though, imho)

What have you seen around lately that's cheap and good?

  3. You can find some decent things in wal-mart "SOMETIMES". Its just a drag to go in there!

  4. I practically ALWAYS find something fabulous but affordable/cheap at TJ Maxx or Marshalls Homegoods! The lamp in our guestbedroom and our bedroom came from there. Super slim and chic for $40 each. Oh, and Target clearance is also a great place to find some excellent home decor deals!! found a side table for the living rooms that holds our DVR/DVD player & iPod docking station for $39! regular priced at $89!

  5. Does it make you nervous when you see Ikat at Walmart, like the trend has just gotten too big? Interiors is almost becoming like fashion, you see a detail or style at the couture level and within six months or less it is at Target. Then it's on to the next trend, fine for clothing, but for interiors? That is a bit crazy...not as inexpensive to change a room as an outfit.

  6. I just scored a set of antique lucite lamp bases for $10.25 off eBay! I couldn't believe I was the only bidder...

  7. I got this runner from Overstock for my kitchen, and I'm in love! I get a burst of happiness every time I look at it.

  8. I agree about getting bummed when things show up at Walmart but as far as ikat is concerned I really believe even though its making a coming back its one of those timeless things that will never go out. I love being able to mix high and low end pieces together but it does seem like its hard to keep up with everything out there in the design world! Oh and how do you not kiss Evelyn's chubby little cheeks 24/7? She's beautiful!

  10. I am SO glad that someone else noticed how cute those Wal-Mart pillows are! By day I'm a sales rep for a major food company and my account is Wal-Mart, so I'm there everyday and I have my eye on those pillows for my office!

And no, it doesn't upset me when I see home trends in Wal-Mart, just because it is there doesn't mean that it has gotten TOO big. You would actually be suprised to know how well their buyers have their fingers on the pulse of the design world.

  12. I bought a white ceramic garden stool just like the one from Ballards Design. I paid $14 for mine. The Ballard's one is $139. SCORE !! There is a turquoise blue and an odd colored red one too. The blue one I may go back for. Let me know if anyone wants one in my area.

  13. This summer Walmart had the prettiest beach towels from the Better Homes and Gardens line. It made me want to stand in the aisle and yell out at the people passing, "Hey, do you see this? This looks great and we're in Walmart!"

  14. I have a Trollsta in black! It is perfect for a home office w/ a printer on top, and extra paper on bottom. Also, as a side table w/ a ton of books stacked on top to make it the typical side table height. Cheap stuff that I have seen is ALL the new dwell studio stuff at Target!

  15. My post tomorrow is about the great sea urchin lamp and sunburst mirrors I've found recently at Marshalls and Amazon! Is that your baby in the cart?!? So cute and yummy!!

  16. My desk is the Melltorp dining table from Ikea. Its narrower than a regular dining table (about 29 inches deep), has a parsons-esque look to it, very clean and simple, and its $69.

  17. I agree about the amazing things to be found at Walmart. It's my little secret. Last week I found a plus-sized ikat print dress in purple, orange, brown, or green, with wooden bead necklace-like detailing that fits too big to wear as a normal dress, but that I have been using a a swim cover and have gotten a ton of compliments on at my local country club pool. And last fall, I also scored a zebra-print ottoman (the Alisha ottoman? I think) from Wal Mart, which I first saw over on the Copy Cat Chic blog.

  18. I gave my daughter an outside green pogoda umbrella from Walmart a few years ago. It's surprisingly chic.

The baby looks adorable! Give her a kiss.

  21. I have the gray dressers (the six drawer and two drawer ones) in my bedroom. I posted photos here: http://www.sassandfrass.com/post/838464003/dressers-im-not-normally-a-fan-of-furnishing-a

I love them, and eventually want to put different knobs on them to make them more unique to me.

I wish the Ikat went better with my color scheme, I'd have a hard time not buying it if it did.

  22. Good finds! Love it all. That Better Homes and Gardens line has been nice to watch.

I'm digging Target lamps lately. Just finished a whole console table around a pair. And they were on sale! Besides, I can't ever resist a set of crisp stripes. : )

  23. I've craved that little, yellow side table forever, and if that ikat duvet came in king size, I'd be all over it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. yes! cheap is good (especially when you've gone over budget with a client's guest bedroom and they really don't want to spend enough money to even finish it.) this ikat duvet cover is just what i need to save the day! you. are. awesome!

  25. I am not a designer, but certainly a fan of design. I just posted last week about a BUNCH of great inexpensive finds from Homegoods. Also, if your city has a Tuesday Morning, that is a good place to hit as well.
