What details in your home make you smile?
Pretty Details
We're adjusting back into small space living here at Chez Komenda. As I've been making decorating choices and purchases, I keep thinking about form and function and about surprises in design.
Really, there's nothing all that mind-bending about an idea like this - to paint the insides of a drawer in an unexpected color. But when there are only a couple of large pieces in our apartment, and when furniture has to do double/triple/quadruple duty, it's little extra steps like this that will keep things fresh. It might just be the crazy decorator in me, but design is in the details and I know I'd smile at the sight of that red after opening a drawer for the 100th time in a given day.

details really do make such a difference. I think I will paint my linen closet a nice fresh color!

I love this company sooo much! I think painting the inside of the drawer is such a fun idea- reminds me of the red soles on a Louboutin shoe- kind of like a stylish surprise:)
ReplyDeleteDetails so make a difference. I was thinking this as I got all Martha yesterday and went crazy labeling things in my newly organized closet off the kitchen. The labels really pull the whole jumble of baskets and things together. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the crown molding in my house. It is classic and clean.

I found the cutest knobs in the $1 bin at Michaels a few weeks ago. I put one that says "discover" on the drawer of my black hall table. It makes me smile every time I walk by.
ReplyDeletedetails make such a difference. I've been wanting to wallpaper the one empty wall in my closet for a while... might have to scour ebay for that!

I like to use fun drawer liners and fun knobs. Gives things that little extra touch. I've also put decorative shelf brackets in the corners of doorways. Gives things an architectural element in the burbs!
ReplyDeleteI think details can take a room from 'good' to 'great'. You know what I love? When everything has its place. You know, like when you're looking for that seldom used offset spatula, or that scrap piece of fabric you were keeping for the perfect project - and you know just where you've kept it in your house. When you take the time to think about every piece and organize spaces to suit how you live and what things you keep - that's a detail that always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE details! Paint, fabric, book ends, you name it!
ReplyDeletethe red inside makes me smile too, but when it comes to DIYing it myself, I'm always too lazy
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I painted the inside drawers of a cabinet in my kitchen bright fire engine red and I love it! See it here:

I love that idea - anything to make me smile! I'd love to paint the inside of my closet in a fun colour or my linen closet :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more! I love an unexpected change of color on a chair back or the interior of a drawer. Have you been to TNT's showroom in Soho? It. Is. A. Dream!
ReplyDeleteI've done this - the insides surfaces of the drawers and cabinets of my seal gray art deco sideboard are now a bold Macaw yellow! They match the hardware. Now to find a good paper to line the drawers....it just makes them feel cleaner than just the paint.
ReplyDeleteI love having things that feel nice in my home. We have a big comfy living room set, soft bed linens, and light and airy curtains. I love it!
ReplyDeleteEarl Grey - a little blog full of big inspiration.
that would definitely make me smile!
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny....first, LOVE your blog! Quick question, do you have any clue who makes the fabric you used on your skirted table in your entry way or where I could get a hold of it?? I know it is random but I would LOVE to have it for an upholstery project. Thanks!!!

I'm doing the same thing right now - a new place and looking for function but want it to look great! Fun to have a fresh start.
ReplyDeleteI recently started a new blog here in Vancouver, BC - check it out www.lovinthat.blogspot.com
I love this detail!
ReplyDeleteBut then again I'm a Virgo and live for the details!!
Yes, what a fun detail! I think I might do this on my next dresser project. The salmon/pink/redish color they chose is so fresh and vibrant!
ReplyDeleteI love that detail, what a fun idea! Now I'll be going home and checking out all the furniture in my house to see if I can paint the drawers like this :)
