I like that the countertops are something I have never seen before, but personally I think it would just drive me crazy while cooking. Plus it would take very little to start looking cluttered. They are pretty though!
West Elm has some similar in lacquered wood and they have a great yellow color! Mirrored counters are beautiful I think - you just have to come to terms with living with smudges!! xo Allison Spicer + Bank
That tray costs like $5.00 from Garden Ridge. We have a couple in white and yellow. If you need it I can mail to you. In person the yellow is not as pretty as it photographs. I leave our white one out on our bar. Let me know :) Kristen
I have seen mirrored back splashes which are so fun. I think mirror is making a huge come-back. I spotted a fun yellow tray on e-bay. Bet you could find one of those in florida. pier one or west elm have trays too- "smoke and mirrors"- yes! Love both! pve
Target has trays like this. I'm not sure what colors they have right now but they always have white and red. I've gotten the West Elm trays and the quality is terrible. They chip immediately! Not worth it!
Target had some black and white trays (just like the one next to the yellow one) over the winter. I wonder if they brought in some fun colors for Spring?
Target had black: http://www.target.com/Melamine-Serving-Tray-Black/dp/B001EI9WIS/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&searchView=grid5&keywords=tray&fromGsearch=true&sr=1-17&qid=1300800953&rh=&searchRank=target104545&id=Melamine%20Serving%20Tray%20Black&node=1038576|1287991011&searchSize=30&searchPage=1&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&frombrowse=0
I bought a tray almost exactly the same in a blue at Kmart a couple years ago - it was out with summer picnic items. --cheap and it is still going strong
Looks like a Zak Designs tray (sold at places like Bloomingdales, Gracious Home...and sometimes featured on One Kings Lane). Didn't see yellow on my Google search, but it might be in-store.
No idea where to find the tray, but I love the countertops! With kids, if I were going for that look, I would use mirrors for a backsplash instead of the counters.
We have black mirrored kitchen countertops, and they are a beautiful when I clean them, the rest of the time they look very dusty, or spotted, and the edges always have finger prints where my boys grab a hold to peer onto the counters. We are re-doing the kitchen in the next year or two, and I'm on the fence about whether or not to change them out. I think for-sure the island will be getting something a little more practical...
NO MIRRORED-topped anything in the kitchen or eating area. No way. No how. Show kitchens only. I have a piece of glass covering my dining room table and I want to shoot myself in the head for EVER acquiring it in the first place.
Unless you have a maid who is permanently stationed in your kitchen. In that case, go on with your bad-self and your mirrored countertops
We went with glass countertops -- LOVE them, and they actually are pretty easy to keep clean. Granted we don't have kids, but they are non porous, great color w/ our copper backsplash and when the LED lights are lit with just the pendants, it's very romantic! (regular reader, not a regular commenter, btw)
West Elm will have the tray and the mirrored countertop is interesting but not very practical since it will show dirt, finger prints and scratches galore. Second, I drop stuff all the time, so unless it's shatter proof, then it's an accident waiting to happen.
The kitchen countertops look amazing, but I'm sure they are very high maintenance. I have mirrored nightstand and even those are hard to keep clean, but the yellow tray, not that I could do.

I actually got a pink one just like it on sale for $3 at Target, but it was the last summer's sale stuff. On the bright side Target does usually repeat so you probably could soon find one there.
Mirror is wrong for a horizontal surface, unless it is antiqued. Just mirror shows every speck of dust and magnifies it, the antiqued mirror is more forgiving in that regard. As to its use on countertops, the scratching that will immediately ensue will make you rue the day you made that choice.
IKEA has a great large oval tray, called ROMANTISK, painted metal with a pretty cutout rim, for ten bucks and they are very sturdy. Comes in cream, blue and red, but at ten bucks, you can have the cream one sprayed in the yellow you desire.
No to mirror on horizontal surfaces; magnifies each speck of dust, unless the mirroring is antiqued, and the glass scratches, with a doubling effect on the scratch the mirror produces.
Check IKEA's painted metal tray, ROMANTISK. At $9.99, you can always spray it yellow. Very sturdy tray, and quite pretty.
I can not stop thinking about faux finishing (all :) the frames, mirrors, trim, I see lately in that tortoise-shell finish (Love It!) Thanks for all your wonderful lovely ideas! (Love them!)
I can always find these trays at Target. Take it up a notch by ordering a monogram decal from one of a number of vendors on Etsy. Makes a super-cute hostess gift!
I have neon green plastic one - I think it came from Wal-Mart and I bought for a taco party ... in college. I think? It currently holds the dog's food and water bowls ...
Would be fine for show but not to actually live with. Mirror glass is not as hard as regular glass and scratches extremely easy. I know because I have a mirrored table that seats four. Ever time we use it I discover multiple abrasions all over.
love that yellow tray! i think the mirrored countertop looks great here, but would be terrible for me to have unless i could stop piling research/books on every surface :D (i need better storage!!!)

ReplyDeleteI have one that's really similar from west elm, also bright yellow.
ReplyDeleteI bought a tray almost exactly the same in a blue at Kmart a couple years ago - it was out with summer picnic items. --cheap and it is still going strong
ReplyDeleteI found a tray for a few dollars at a thrift store and just spray painted it. (can you tell I love your blog?)
ReplyDeletehttp://14cali.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-weekend-projects.html
I bought a black one at Target last summer and it is very sturdy.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Zak Designs tray (sold at places like Bloomingdales, Gracious Home...and sometimes featured on One Kings Lane). Didn't see yellow on my Google search, but it might be in-store.

ReplyDeleteSpeaking of practical... what is the most practical choice for kitchen counters?
ReplyDeleteI have the white tray and I got it at target.
ReplyDeleteTry West Elm - they have trays like that in various colors, including yellow!

ReplyDeleteI have that tray in teal, from Target. I have a yellow lacquer one from Crate and Barrel, but its more square.
ReplyDeleteTry Target.com and search "yellow tray". They have a few options.

I've been looking for trays like that, too...but in a print. I have seen them at Target, but I'm not sure if I'm loving the prints they have.
ReplyDeleteThe mirrored look is definitely fun, but surely impractical!
Funny enough I saw something very similar at Joann's the other day with their summer line of accessories and things. good luck!
ReplyDeleteI thought West Elm had a yellow tray, not sure how long ago that was.

ReplyDeleteI have a very similar red acrylic tray from target!
ReplyDeleteI bought the EXACT same tray at Target last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Target had these not too long ago!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you're planning to do with it, I'm sure it will be amazing!
I bought a tray just like that from Home Goods/ TJ Maxx. It just depends on what they have in stock at the time. But it's worth a shot to check!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about a yellow or acrylic tray, but I just scored this awesome campaign-esque version at a thrift store. Keep your eyes peeled!

ReplyDeleteJoann Fabrics had white ones just that size and a little rounded like that one.. maybe a paint job?

I know that Miles Redd uses mirrored counter tops, but haven't heard about the practicality. Probably not in my house.

Target has a few different colors. The inside is a wavy pattern though.
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen countertops look amazing, but I'm sure they are very high maintenance. I have mirrored nightstand and even those are hard to keep clean, but the yellow tray, not that I could do.

ReplyDeleteLove the look but I can only imagine how they would look on a daily basis! Janell
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about the countertops. BTW, I saw a white tray very similar to the one in your photograph at JoAnn's just yesterday.
ReplyDeleteTarget.com baby! Mirrored counter tops, sounds like a huge pain in the rump, but just in the bar area would be super cool.
ReplyDeletePretty countertops. Try Target, I have seen trays just like this. :)
