Little Green Notebook: Magnificant Malachite

Malachite is such a pretty stone - no wonder it's a favorite in the design world. Sadly, the only malachite I own is in the form of a ring and a strand of beads, but I wear them a lot (not together obviously). Surprisingly the color compliments a lot of other colors and patterns.

Last week I was browsing through Spoonflower's site and I stumbled across this malachite print. Have you heard of Spoonflower? You can upload your own designs and they'll print up some fabric for you (or you can purchase other people's designs). Prices range between $18-$32 per yard depending on the type of fabric you choose (like cotton or linen blend).

I was so excited to buy a couple yards of this malachite fabric for pillows for a client and to reupholster my rope benches. Look at all the cool stuff you can do with this fabric!

I hand painted malachite in the back of book shelves long ago for a client. The world seems to be easier now with places like "Spoonflower" - fabric would have worked. Great ideas, Jenny - love your prints.

I have a malachite obsession, I did a faux malachite on two chair frames and a vintage console. Now I'm considering switch plates. Like I said, obsession.

That fabric is INSANE!
When we were in TX, I went to an estate sale where most things were still way overpriced, however, there was a grouping of malachite boxes, cig lighters, coasters, etc that were way UNDERpriced. Needless to say, I snagged as much as I could, and had my sister buy the rest!

Yummy - I've been loving malachite for a while. In fact, I just did a post about malachite walls. Was thinking about painting them myself. www.nesteaglerock.com.... also doing a stencil giveaway at the moment . Sadly, I have not run across any malachite stencils yet! This is soo similar to a print on a fabric i found on the DecoratorsBest stie. However i absolutely love the idea of using the same print for so many different things.

We have had a huge crush on malachite around the office too! Ever since we were introduced to Jim Thompson's Tony Duquette inspired Collection! I used it in the blue colorway for some bolsters on a white sofa in a cabana and they were lovely! I would love to use the green with navy and brass...

I'm totally psyched that you chose some of my designs!!!EEEEKKK!! You are one of the first blogs I read every day. Thank you!! (My designs are the pink arrows, and the pink and turquoise dots.)
And for anyone not familiar with Spoonflower yet, it's like the etsy of fabric. Use the search terms for upholstery, pillows, drapes, etc., and it will help navigate through a plethera of quiling fabrics. Not that those aren't great in their own right!And their customer service is terrific.
