Hungry Prints and Art in the Kitchen

My darling and talented friend, Abbey (of Design Scouting fame!), has a great etsy shop called Hungry Prints. Check out these gorgeous, graphic letterpressed prints Abbey and her shop partner printed themselves in Williamsburg. I've seen these in person and they are really beautiful - bright, vivid colors on super thick high quality paper!

Lots of people don't think about putting art in their kitchen, but I think it adds personality and life to an otherwise pretty sterile, functional space.

Those little nooks in kitchens or the empty space on the sides of our cabinets or appliances? Perfect little spots for a piece of interesting art or two!

If you have absolutely no hanging space, try leaning your art on the counter or open shelving, or layer it behind you sugar jar!

We have some dead space above our refrigerator that's just screaming for fun art! I think I'm going to order this one. The fun part will be figuring out how to fill in the blank! I love the pancake idea Abbey shows here, and of course there's tons of family inside joke potential!

How would you fill in the blank? :)

  1. I love art in the kitchen. It allows you to bring in your personality and can totally transform the feel of the space.

  2. Love how art in the kitchen makes it feel less like just a utilitarian room and more of part of the living space of the house. It makes a sterile kitchen feel much cozier too!

  3. Would you frame with glass and use a dry erase marker? Or is that totally cheesey? Of course, above a fridge would be a lot of work. I do love those prints. I'm sure that they're more beautiful in person.

Thanks for all that you do. I enjoy our mornings together...lol!

  7. Those are completely adorable, and such a great way to add color! Our (rental) kitchen is pretty drab on it's own, but I would love to add some art work to brighten it up. Thanks for sharing!

  11. DARK CHOCOLATE + RED WINE = LOVE! I love art in the kitchen (and not only my kids') - we have a oversized French poster hanging on the wall but I love the idea of using the side of the cupboards to have smaller pieces lined up vertically - genius! Thanks for the inspiration, Cynthia

  13. Cute shop! I agree with you. Art in the kitchen makes it cozy and more a part of the home. Art and rugs and even table lamps add so much to a kitchen.

  14. We just remodeled our kitchen and it's all light and creamy which I love, but it really needs some art. I've felt like there isn't enough wall space, but after seeing your post, I think I'm inspired to make it happen!

  16. My kitchen is so tiny, that I don't spend too much time in it. I grew up with the kitchen as the hub of the home, so I can't wait until hubby and I get a bigger one :)

  17. LOVE art in the kitchen. It can warm up and give some style to what can otherwise be a somewhat cold, utilitarian space. It's a great place to have some fun with your art!

  24. I think art anywhere and everywhere you can squeeze it in is my idea of _______=Love! Also, I was out thrifting the other day and saw a PAIR of framed art pieces that you would've loved. The had a different bird in each with a sort of chinoserie background to them. Hard to explain but they reminded me of the panels you just hung behind the plexi and would've gone amazing with your new rug. AND I think they were less than $40 for the pair. Wish I had taken a pic for you :( so you could've drooled over them from afar. Thanks again for a little bit of daily inspiration!

  26. Annie's White Cheddar Bunnies = Love. A box of those babies lasts nary a weekend in this house.

I'm planning on framing the front and back artwork (from the dust jacket) of the Phaidon What to Cook & How to Cook It. We also have an oversized, graphic Stendig calendar, which we LOVE. http://reviews.crateandbarrel.com/7258/34817/stendig-2012-wall-calendar-reviews/reviews.htm

  33. I'm a HUGE fan of art in the kitchen (actually, art in general)! I laughed when I came across this post because I had the exact same post (art in kitchen) set to post today, but then changed it to post Monday (I needed to post something else today). I also LOVE art in the bathroom for the exact same reasons. Great job!

  34. LOVE art in the kitchen. I'm currently trying to choose which two of these (http://www.etsy.com/shop/lucileskitchen?section_id=7538597) I'm going to hang in our kitchen.

  35. I love art in the kitchen as long as it doesn't go overboard - I completely disagree that kitchens are the new living rooms and should be styled in the same way! Kitchens should be beautiful but still maintain some feeling of utility. A space that is easily cleaned and clutter free.
