Knob Favorites

I get bored of furniture really fast, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense to move or get rid of a perfectly fine piece of furniture, especially when it's functional and fits a space well. I was super bored of this console last month, but before I looked into replacing it with something else or painting it another color, I switch out the hardware on the top drawer with these brass ring pulls from eBay (you can see the old knobs here) and BAM. I like the console again!

I'm sort of funny about hardware. I love taking a peek at Anthropologie's offerings because their hardware section is like bins of gorgeous candy - all glossy and colorful! But when it comes down to it, I feel like most of the knobs they have are best suited for a kid's room. I prefer hardware to be a little more simple - mostly metallics and usually just one or two colors.

Here are some of my favorite classic and quirky pieces out there right now. I'd stick with more classic pulls on a colorful/funky piece of furniture and consider the quirky options for a super tame piece (maybe something you kept wood, or painted all white or black).

  1. Ooh, this is a great resourceful post! Thank you! I couldn't agree more about Anthropologie's knobs. I just adore them, but agree, hesitate to bring them into my living spaces. Funny now that I think about it- both my twins room & my daughters have knobs from there though.

  2. I wouldn't mind using the second group's knobs in any space, but of course I would keep the rest of the place very simple.
I find that (almost) everything could fit in some space, if certain circumstances are kept!

  4. Well, I liked #8 from the first set...they are $20 per knob!! It's good for inspiration, now to find that look at a better price.

  5. Knobs are one of my favorite design elements, it's a fun way to dress up a piece and it's simple, easy and inexpensive to do. I also have found that Hobby Lobby has a lot of the same hardware as Anthropologie for a lot less cash, another great place I have found was Menards Hardware, they have rows of hardware and one of the best selections I've seen at a hardware store!

  9. Jenny,
Love the advice and resources. anthro always appeals to the kid in me so ditto great for kid spaces! I was about to toss an old Ikea dresser, as in 15 years=antique, but used Annie Sloan Paint on it (would love to know your views on the product) and changed out the knobs. It feels good to upcycle both a dresser and a pair of drapes for the guest room, little tweaks make a difference!

  10. For knobs simliar to those at anthropologie try world market and hobby lobby, I've seen some that are EXACTLY like the ones at anthro, but for only $3-$5 each! And if you have a Hobby Lobby coupon (which they always have) you could get them for even less.

  18. This is great, I've been looking around for knobs for a while.. its funny that you say your thinking of painting your console again! I just purchased yesterday a quart of the billiard table color you used on it to test if I will like it on my console!

  22. It can be really hard to find nice hardware in Australia - I think I need to look online more. That said, I just bought a secondhand dresser which I'm painting and it has the most incredible Chinoiserie style hardware I've seen. Can't wait to put the final coat on, and put it up on the blog :)

I love your options here though...might need to see if they ship internationally!

  25. I just saw the picture of your updated console on pinterest before I even saw this post (as I can only make my "blogging rounds" like once or twice a month). I instantly thought, "That looks like something from Little Green Notebook." Sure enough when I clicked it to find out where it was from it was in fact you. I would have thought that having an eclectic style like yours would make it difficult to distinguish but clearly, you have a not only lovely, but very defined "Jenny" style. Awesome.

  26. Great selection! Anthro can be a bit cutesy vintage, not right for most pieces. I love the paint color on that chest- what did you use?

  27. Hello! I love your blog and read it all the time for inspiration on DIY projects around my own home :)

I have been searching high and low for drawer pulls and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for some advice. I am looking for a 2" center to center pull but 3 inches seems to be the standard. Do you have any tips on hard to find drawer pull sizes??

    thank you!
