My Kitchen Pendants and a Circa Goodman Substitute

Along with what seems like every other decorator on the planet, I love Circa Lighting's Goodman cone pendants. The prices rance from about $400 to $900 each depending on the finish. They are so gorgeous:

When I was deciding on pendants for our little kitchen remodel (both in size and in budget), I really wanted something like those from Circa. If only these paper shade cone pendants from Shades of Light existed at the time! Maybe for our next house :)

For our kitchen though we ended up with these black/oil-rubbed bronze pendants from Home Depot (of all places!). I wasn't even looking for pendants that trip to the HD, but they sang out to me from across the light bulb aisle.

I bought three on the spot for about $75 each, which is a pretty great deal, I think.

We love how they look with the newly painted cabinets and they work great - so no regrets here for going the inexpensive route this time.

Where did you buy your kitchen sconces?

  1. I love the Goodman pendants primarily because I love the detail in the pipe/chain. I've never seen them in person, though. Do the wires thread around the outside of the three chain links between the pipes? Are they just photoshopped out in every picture I see or are they somehow invisible?

Timely post for me as I'm choosing pendants right now!

  2. ...........will you spray the inside to match your handles/tap in the kitchen?

  3. Where did you get your faceted planter- on the left? Everything looks SO good!

  4. They look great! I also had the thought of spraying the insides a color or even a brass tone. My pendants that I have in my kitchen are from Lowes. $48 a piece! Now, they are definitely not the highest quality, but for our homes price point they work perfect.

  5. We actually just installed the brass and milk glass version displayed directly in front of yours. We are so happy with them and I was pleasantly surprised with home depot's current selection of pendant lighting. for the price you can't beat it.

  6. I love your pendants- Your kitchen looks so good! Home Depot has a few things I was loving last time I visited - Kristen at The Hunted Interior also has a great upgrade to a flush mount fixture found at HD.

  7. I've had some great luck at Home Depot, Lowes and Menards when it's come to lighting for our home and no one ever believes me when I tell them where I got certain lighting from. Your kitchen really is super pretty!

  9. Love them! You never know what you find at Home Depot. I'll have to check and see if they are available here in Canada. Great option for clients on a budget. Thanks!

  12. If you get sick of those, I found these at Menards of all places. They are a knock off of something I've seen. They are brass inside and a good size. I thought I saw that they are 16 inches long. They are on clearance here. I think I might be the only one that likes them.

  13. Jenny, those look awesome. And the brass hardware looks fantastic on the navy cabinets.

  14. We hacked these beautiful lights from Rejuvenation that were out of our reach budget-wise using stuff from Lowe's. I'm still pretty pleased with them but I just bought an island and if I ever put a light over it, I think these ones from your kitchen are it. http://keepsmilinghome.blogspot.com/2012/04/antique-trouble-light-diy.html

  15. ha- we bought ours at Home Depot too! It took us so long to pick some.
I feel like the Goodman pendants could be DIY'ed somehow- just a little gold paint (for the inside), a conical lampshade, and a pendant electrical kit.

  16. Several others have already suggested this, but I wonder if you could paint the inside a metallic brassy-gold color?

    They look great!

  17. Bailey over at Peppermint Bliss has recently done some posts showing how she has moved (and recovered and sometimes painted) her furniture as she has moved from home to home. That girl has moved a lot! I would love to see how you have done the same - I find myself looking for certain pieces and trying to figure out where you have them now. Your homes have all been beautiful and you are so talented at reusing things in new ways. Please share.

  19. I would never have known they were on the cheaper route of the price point persuasion. They look really terrific. Home Depot does have some good looking pieces, and for sure when you're not looking!

I think you've styled your kitchen in the best possible way. It really sings your style and seems really functional at the same time.

I've been on the hunt for a new range and the one you got was really lovely. I wish I could find one here in Memphis!

Thanks for the style inspiration, as per usual!

  20. What about painting the inside gold? It would mimic the other shades you were digging, plus it would go really well with the updated hardware. Just a thought!

  24. I just have to say, I LOVE the double-decker cabinets.

  25. These are gorgeous! Saving the link for when we're reading to hang a light in our dining room. We found some Tom Dixon-esque all-copper pendant lights when we were in Bali this summer and hand-packed them for the trip home. I was so worried they'd bend, but thankfully they arrived intact and look great in the kitchen. Here's a link to the post about them: http://www.hitherandthither.net/2013/01/kitchen-lights.html

  26. I don't have a place for pendants in the kitchen, but I'm keeping my eye out for a swing arm sconce to put above my sink-so many I like are crazy expensive! Need to find a deal like you did!

  27. We have a chandelier in our kitchen that I bought at Pottery Barn Teen on clearance (or Clarence as we say in my house.) I always make sure to check kids stores for sale lighting because there are almost always great finds on the cheap cheap.

  28. What a great kitchen! Loving the brass hardware against the color of the cabinets. So rich! And those light fixtures were a steal!

  30. Do I spot some checkboard floors in the kitchen? I clicked back to the post from when you moved in and they looked like outdated orange tile. Do tell if you changed them! Wow, this kitchen has gone through such an awesome transformation, very inspiring!

  33. You should spray the inside with a brass to match your hardware. I love those!

  34. Got mine at Ballard design. I think they have consistently good products at a good price point. I really like yours form HD. The Circa ones are lovely but probably too big for the space. Perfect choice!

  35. Great kitchen! Where did you get your brass faucet and gold cabinet handles? I'm in the market for new hardware in my kitchen and love the look of gold tones in the kitchen!

  38. Love the pendants. Home Depot / Home Decorators Collection (owned by the same peeps) has some nice inexpensive lighting these days! My kitchen pendant is from Restoration Hardware (also not a bad deal considering some of their other stuff is so pricey)

  39. I was about to order my pendants from lamps plus until I saw the $44 in shipping so I searched for another seller and HD sold the same exact light with FREE shipping. Plus if I wanted to return them it would be easey:) they are black with gold interior... A Tom Dixon knock off! I love them.
Yours are great too...as is the whole kitchen,

  40. Ooooh yes! Love these guys! I'm going to second all of the other commenters and say spray the inside gold!
