I really love getting emails with links to your projects. Meghan Morrow sent me this stenciling project she did in her home and I LOVE how it turned out! Her husband is in the Army and they live on base, so they move a lot. She had been dying to use Albert Hadley's Fireworks wallpaper (made by Hinson, distributed by Donghia) in her home for years, but it didn't make any sense for them to invest in that kind of installation.

Meghan bought a quilting stencil at a craft store and made her own version of the pattern with a sharpie and an X-acto knife!
She mentioned to me it was a little time-consuming, but aren't the results worth it?
We've been working on a stenciling project here at my house and I can attest that it can be a little tricky to get crisp lines on every repeat. It seems like the secret though is to not use too much paint and to keep both the stencil and the brush very clean.
Remember that mirror project above? Meghan used this tutorial to make her own sunburst mirror. So many great DIYs in one place! I'm obsessed with her green curtains, too.
Check out Meghan's post for all the details!
I was just thinking about stenciling our foyer/hallway, while I was painting the space in dark gray. Maghan did such a beautiful job! And love the DIY starburst mirror and the green curtains! I will have to check out her blog for more :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous job, Meghan! I so admire your patience!! It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh Man that is good!!! I have always loved that wallpaper!!
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over her curtains too! I'd love to know where they're from.
ReplyDeleteWow!! I'm not usually a fan of stenciling but this is really impressive! Plus, I love that wallpaper and it's impossible to get (and afford)

I can attest to how time-consuming stenciling is. I just finished this accent wall, which I wanted to look like Hygge & West's Petal Pusher wallpaper. I think it looks really similar!

An exacto knife…wow!!!! I am in awe of Meghan's patience and talent. Resourceful, and beautiful!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Very impressive, although it looks more than a little time consuming.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Meghan. I am so impressed with your patience just in cutting the stencil and then to cover the whole room . . . . Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is beyond impressive! Beautiful job Meghan.
ReplyDeleteThis would test my patience -- but you're so right, the results are spectacular!!

I am so impressed that she created her own stencil -- looks terrific! As someone who recently completed her first (and LAST) stenciling project, I also want to say YES, clean the stencil after each use. I used the Willow Pattern from The Stencil Library which has a lot of intricate detail (it's a chinoiserie toile); its included directions state to NOT clean the stencil. So I didn't. And by the time I realized I should have been (because of details being lost) I was out of steam: I did this in our master bedroom which has 14' tall vaulted ceilings, and manoeuvring that large stencil in the apices nearly did me in (frustration). I'm lying a bit, probably, because I could totally see stenciling again in a non-vaulted space .... I am really proud of this Fireworks gal for creating her own stencil -- looks terrific.
ReplyDeleteWow! Such a cool idea. Love that stencil. Very impressive.

So this comment is coming really late, but thank you for including Brigette's nursery photo in this post. I think I stopped breathing for a second when I saw it, haha.:) Incredible that Meghan created the same look from a stencil! Thanks for all the constant inspiration you provide!
