It looks like the price moves around a bit (I think shipping is free now), but I found these American Fluor Barn Lights on Amazon last month for only $35 each!! I was a little nervous they would look and feel cheap, but they are the real deal barn lights! Nothing fancy and built to last! Apparently you can get them at feed and tack stores for something like $25! I've heard Menard's has them for a similar price too.
The parts are incredibly well-made and beautiful. The inside of the shade is white porcelain and the outside is galvanized metal, so you'll probably want to paint the outside like I did, but it's super easy. I just put the shades face down on a drop cloth and sprayed the outsides with Rustoleum's flat black enamel. No tape necessary! I actually like that I wasn't paying for an exterior finish that I would have wanted to change anyway. The perfect base for a DIYer!
Do you have any favorite barn light sources? These were far and away the best deal I found, especially with such a large shade (14"!!).
That is such a great deal! I never thought of using that kind of shade outside for lighting but I think I am in love.
ReplyDeleteExcellent timing, Jenny! I was tackling that very issue this week as we prepare to move into our new place and I have a ton of updates to do first. You are a definite go to for me! Thanks!

Loving those lights but cannot take my eyes off the concrete balls. Please tell me that story. Is it DIY?
ReplyDeleteI love these lights and have been wanting to use them. Do you have any suggestions on what light you would use for the front entry if you used these barn lights everywhere else?
ReplyDeleteMust purchase!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I've been looking for something just like this -- thanks so much. Question: would it be doable to change the 10.5 inch galvanized steel pipe for something smaller -- I might consider hanging these vertically in my hallway if I could make them shorter.
ReplyDeleteI have two of these, LOVE the curved shape:

This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing. I'm pinning it to my future farmhouse board.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal! I was just admiring those lights paired with the black door when you did the floor post. I love that you use things that are affordable and something we can copy. Thank you always for sharing your resources with us!
ReplyDeleteI completely love these - great find!
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome! I searched out all kinds of barn lights that I wanted to use in my bathroom . It didn't end up working out, but Lowes and Feed Stores were the best prices. Although Shades of Light and Lamps Plus had beautiful ones!!!

The problem I am having with lighting is not buying decent lights at a decent price, mbut rather the electrical costs. We paid almost $600 for a few hours of work :/ I did find someone who works on th side, but still the work costs a fortune.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of these lights. The projection really is in great proportion the the facade.
Love these lights! They look great, particularly with that painted floor. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteI was just looking yesterday everywhere for these lights! I think someone else also posted this...perfect timing! Love the straight neck vs a gooseneck. Clean lines. Spray painted black. Love it all.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great find! I have been looking for something similar for our back porch!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Perfect. I love and will be purchasing!
ReplyDeletethis is so cute! thank you! i just might have to try it :)
ReplyDeleteA nice looking light. Thanks for sharing the source. You may not realize it but Rustoleum enamel sprays are not for use on galvanized metal without the appropriate surface prep and priming first. Oh sure, you can spray it on and it will look nice for a short bit, but over time it will flake and peel - particularly in an outdoor environment. Mileage varies on local climate.
ReplyDeleteI used these lights on our addition recently and I love them! Classic look for not much $$ I ordered mine through Amazon.
ReplyDeleteI love them so much! Thanks for sharing your source.
ReplyDeleteYour lights looks awesome - I'm hoping they hold up for that price! My favorite place for Barn Lighting like this is Barn Light Electric (http://www.barnlightelectric.com)! They have SUCH an expansive collection of barn lighting, and when we got our lights from their (our lights were porcelain, but they sell aluminum too) they were of awesome quality! You should check them sometime out too!
ReplyDeleteI never thought this will work, but seeing it now... I am convinced! -Patrick Tan
