It's so embarrassing to admit it here, but we've been sleeping on two twin mattresses pushed together with a king-sized feather topper - for the last two years. YIKES! It was meant to only be a temporary thing right after we moved, but here we are! Honestly, it wasn't a big deal and that's why we let it go for so long. But the time has arrived and a real king-sized mattress is coming our way this month (yay!!). The sort-of bummer is the bed I made for the Domino shoot is too short for a true king-sized mattress. We're giving that frame away to someone who wants it, and you know me - I'm just as happy to have an excuse to start fresh, so no big deal!
I've started looking around for a new frame and I can't get the idea of a canopy bed out of my mind. We have really high ceilings in our bedroom and I think a canopy would fill the vertical space so perfectly!
Some of you might be thinking canopy bed = fussy princess bed. To which I say, WRONG! So wrong. It can be that, but check out how completely modern canopy beds feel in these eclectic spaces:
There are SO many great online options for canopy beds since the last time I checked. There are a range of prices here below, but some are only about $350 for a King! Crazy talk, right there.
Did I miss any canopy beds that you love? I am getting pretty stoked about the idea for our room...
I love the 5th image down😍😍 I've loved canopy beds for years, but haven't had one since I was a kid. We just moved out of an apartment with 16 foot ceilings. Our bedroom always felt kind of like an elevator shaft. I wish i had thought to put canopy bed in there. It would have taken up some of that excess vertical space. I can't wait to see how the room turns out!
ReplyDeleteLol. Google turned my heart-eye emoji's into question marks. Does that count as an auto correct fail?
ReplyDeleteI love the iron campaign bed! Another option that is totally gorgeous for filling in that vertical space is to create a ceiling canopy--so soft and pretty! Here's one of my favorites: https://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2012/07/04/99b34d59b3cc.jpeg
ReplyDeleteWe have the architecture bed- found it consigned for less than a third of the price by a woman who didn't measure before she bought and couldn't get it to fit up her stairs. Lucky us!
ReplyDeleteI will say the lack of a true headboard is a bummer if you like to read in bed, but I compensate okay with euro pillows.
LOVE them all but especially the very top one!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of a canopy bed - especially the cool, dark metal against sumptuous sheets. Be careful, though: my parents had a canopy bed, and my mom walked into their room one day to see my five-year-old sister and her friend swinging from the bars like it was a jungle gym!
ReplyDeleteI love canopy and four poster beds! I am not sure that they would appropriate in Florida though. Those all look like excellent options.
ReplyDeleteJenny, I have the first canopy bed from Overstock! I reupholstered the headboard piece in a Brunschwig & Fils red silk and you would never know how inexpensive the bed is! I also purchased a nice box spring cover to coordinate with my bedding. Every time I take someone on a tour of my home for the first time they fall in love with the bed!
ReplyDeleteJenny I love these canopies and cannot help but adore the room in the pink palette!! I gave my very traditional four poster Queen Anne style to my eldest granddaughter and am ready for a new simplified look!

I love canopy beds especially the more traditional ones. I had one at my moms since I was little and draped sari fabric over the top. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! We've recently started remodeling our home and the bedroom has vaulted ceilings - I'm planning a modern canopy bed. I can't wait to see what you chose! I'm sure it will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteJust remember that metal bed frames are cold! Not good for late night reading.
ReplyDeleteRoom and Board's Portica is fabulous! I bought it at an estate sale and am still in love with it.
ReplyDeleteI want the bed! I live in phoenix and can come pick it up! that is of course if its fits a queen?

ReplyDeleteYou missed bamboo canopy beds in a natural "burnt" bamboo and fun lacquer finish. both the small and VERY wide diameter bamboo makes a STUNNING canopy. do check them out.I love the frech canopy frame you pictured. That's also one of my faves.
ReplyDeleteWe have a very streamlined one in our bedroom and just love it…feels luxurious without being fussy. Happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the one we have: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Quatrafoil-King-Canopy-Bed/8009624/product.html?refccid=C5EC3XC6JS4ZPRSGCTI4LG32BQ&searchidx=0
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration - thank you! :)

Funny that you've been on two twins and are now switching to a king. I've nearly decided that when we replace our 3 yr old king mattress, we'll go with two twins. The most comfortable part of a king mattress is he ridge that develops in the middle. :) Are you getting a Casper or one of those other mattresses that arrives in a small box?
ReplyDeleteI'm confused what the point of a canopy is though- esp. when no drapery is involved. Is it just about verticality? They look a bit like cages with no gauzy curtains
ReplyDeleteI have the room and board architecture bed in BRIGHT yellow. I love it so much there are not even words. It's extraordinarily sturdy and when it was delivered, the delivery men came in, took their shoes off (each time of the 3-4 trips back and forth to their truck), and set up the bed and TOOK AWAY THE TRASH. I love room and board.

ReplyDeleteI have been coveting a canopy bed for months! I've been trying to convince my husband we should build one... No luck though! :)
ReplyDeleteI have the ikea edland one (RIP, they stopped making it a few years ago). I adore it so so so much and it was only $250 for a queen!!
ReplyDeleteFinally! I'm sorry but I hope you get rid of those giant peachy panels, cause they are ugly as hell... especially next to that bright lime/yellow bed. I usually love your style so I'm looking forward to your new take on this room :)
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a canopy bed. And, at the ripe old age of 60, I've recently met the man of my dreams (who knew!) It's nice to know that two of my favourite things can peacefully co-exist!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled across your blog. Love your home! I have a ton of exposed yucky brick in my house. I haven't been brave enough to paint it. I noticed the painted brick fireplace in the first photo. How did you paint it and what products did you use? I hope you don't mind me asking. I'm sorta desperate.
Thanks!
Gorgeous idea! Your bedroom would be perfect for one! I also love the Osborn bed from Crate and Barrel, but your World Market choice is very similar. Can't wait to see what you choose! :)
