Oriental Rugs

A number of you have asked about my sources for small and inexpensive oriental rugs. Flea markets and thrift stores are the best places to look (my two kitchen rugs are from Brussels fleas - 5 euros each!). But if you don't have any good auctions or flea markets nearby, and you have the patience to search through the junk, eBay has some great finds. Here's the search that I use.

I love this 2x4 rug, it's the perfect size for a kitchen - $50 Buy It Now with free shipping:

  1. I grew up in a family with four kids and my mom puts oriental rugs everywhere- so good for hiding mess too! I think I might need to buy this and carry on the family tradition.

  2. Hi Jenny!
I would love your take on rug styles... I'm asking for opinions on my blog. I would love it if you could stop by sometime and leave your feedback! :-)

And by the way - that's a great price for that rug!!! What a steal. And that small size is great - very flexible and easily moved around to lots of different area in a home.

  5. I love the look as well, but I like them on the reverse side (like Darryl Carter). I like the subdued patterns that are displayed when they are on the reverse.

  6. I love Oriental rugs, too, but I've found you have to be careful on ebay because the rugs may be cheap but the s+h can really kill you. Overstock is my favorite source for inexpensive rugs --- you can get some good deals, and shipping is always super super cheap.

  7. My aunt lives in Pakistan and every other year she sends amazing Afghan rugs. Great stuff!
Would look great in my master bedroom.

  8. I'm always on the search for the "perfectly threadbare Persian rug with perfectly faded natural dyes under $500"....wonder if that's a legitimate Ebay search phrase?

  10. Hi Jenny,

Thanks for posting where you go to look or purchase your rugs. I'm in love with oriental rugs and have a few scattered around my home. My sister has some really beautiful rugs.
I do have a question for you regarding rugs. Where would you suggest getting small wool rugs cleaned? These are rugs that I have by my doors and they're dirty becuase my little poodles have used them for potty pads on occasion. I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like them "clean".
    Thanks!

  12. I bought a great old worn oriental on ebay, but... wow! does it ever stink. It has been stored in my garage for several months while I try to decide what to do. I hate that I just threw away $500, any suggestions?
