Post-Sandy Report

Finding this lovely photo on my phone was a surprise. I think Grace was impressed with the gorgeous sunset and felt the need to document it. :)

Hi friends! The hurricane blew through here, and we're still safe. Things have been a little crazy as you can imagine. We are housing out-of-town guests as wells as family who were evacuated from the flood zones in Manhattan, so at least we have lots of great company at the brownstone! It's looking like it will be several more days before the city will be up and running again. I'm hoping we'll have internet tomorrow though and I'll be back to posting like regular.

How did you fellow east-coasters fare? It's been heart-breaking to see so much destruction to our friends homes and apartment buildings. We're feeling lucky nothing major happened to us.

  4. It's been okay over here in Brooklyn. We didn't even lose power. However, there is no way to get to work since the subways are broken. And my parent's neighbors in New Jersey had a tree go through the wall of their house. But everyone seems to be ok. I think the Manhattanites got it way worse than Brooklyn. Good thoughts to everyone!!

  5. Glad to hear your all okay. Never been in a situation like that we don't have those kinds of weather events in the state I come from in Australia.
The photo is lovely. Similarly I was the godmother at a christening a week or so ago and after the fact I found a photo on my Instagram account of me up on the alter and realised my six year old has taken it (Not a great photo was the giveaway) and somehow fluked posting to Instagram. Ha they are funny and tech savvy these days!!

  7. So relieved to hear you are okay. Thanks for letting us know - there's a number of NY bloggers that I'm going to worry about until I hear how they fared. And selfishly, I'm relieved that your home isn't damaged. I was beginning to dread things as I realized what a kink that would throw in your inspirational home-project posting. I look forward to those like they were Saturday mornings, chocolate truffles, and baby kisses all rolled into one. I would have missed them ridiculously!

  8. If we want to see the sea of green around us then we have to grow weed indoor, and I think to save our earth from pollution this is the best thing by which we can easily increase the oxygen and make our environment beautiful. So really thankful to you for posting this blog.

  9. Being from Rhode Island we did get high winds but we were exetremly lucky as we just had some small tree branches to clean up. No loss of power in my household but those that lived closer to the coastline had damage and loss of power.

So glad to see you posting.

So glad you are okay, Jenny! I was thinking of you. My brothers up there are alright also - holed up in Manhattan with no power. So happy your home and family are happy and safe.

  11. We had a tree fall on our power lines here in MA and most around us are dealing with big downed trees. Feels like such small potatoes when you see the news and the horrible devastation others are dealing with. Glad you made it through okay!

  12. We are in CT and sustained minimal damage thankfully- just lots of debris in the yard and large branches. It was devestating to watch the news report last night on the destruction in the city and NJ- so heartbreaking. My thoughts are with all of those who lost so much during this storm!
So glad you and yours are safe!!

  13. So glad you are all ok. We survived here is Westchester. Lots of down trees and power lines. Lost our fence and a cracked windshield, but never lost power! No schools so far for three days and counting....cabin fever!! Stay safe!

  14. Thank you soo much for letting us know how you are doing! I was really worried about the east coast bloggers! We feel like we know you, like you are friends of ours. I am so glad you are no longer in the financial district, they seem to have gotten slammed.

  15. Have been thinking about you for the past 2 days, glad you are safe and have a house full! My friend's mother in Breezy Point didn't fare as well, but at least she was able to evacuate up here to Boston pre-Sandy! Boston was left rather unscathed, Thank God!!!
    Take care. Amy

  21. Jenny,

Happy to hear that you and your family are safe. I am sure that it is hectic but how nice to have your family at your house to help each other through these tough times.

    Take care, Elizabeth

  22. Jenny,

So happy to hear you and your family fared well during Sandy. Here in the DC region we planned for the worst and got lucky.

  23. Agree with Sara... have been so worried about all my East coast bloggers. Was watching a reporter on Anderson Cooper's show from Battery Park.... my hubs and I used to hang out there when he was doing an internship at the WTC and we lived in a tiny apt in Battery Park City.... the water was just pouring in.... so frightening!

  24. My nook of Brooklyn faired well too. Our friends and family were very lucky. Family just dealt with a minor 2 hr stint without power. It's been insane to see what others have had to deal with. So great you were able to take in family & friends in need!

  25. Oh thank goodness everyone is ok. I bet it feels very festive with everyone hunkering down. Hope its fun and cozy at least.

  26. Glad to hear you are fine. My sister and her baby have no water or power in Chelsea. They are leaving the nest to head to a hotel for a few days. Hope things are back to normal soon.

  27. Glad you guys and your home are ok! Wasn't sure what part of Brooklyn you're in and saw pics of lots of flooding in Greenpoint? Yeah, I don't know my NYC geography so well (being from Seattle) so I've been worrying about anyone who hasn't posted! But I guess the power outage can be thanked for that. xo Maggie

  28. Isn't Brooklyn great?! Last year for Irene, Clinton Hill (where I used to live) was one of the areas people were actually evacuated TO! That definitely put my parent's minds to rest. Also, I talked to my old roommates Monday night and they still had power and all was well.

You will truly enjoy your new home across the river. :)

  29. Good for you! Glad to read that you are fine! We are still without power, thank goodness nobody got hurt, we were hit by a tree..

  31. Doing good. Did not even lose power but are now conserving gas so we can still get out to check on friends. I think we were fortunate to be in the Heights.
