New Range

Fall is probably my favorite season here in New York. Our extended families took advantage of the great weather and the extra space in our new home, so we've had people staying with us for more than a month straight. It's been so great to share our home and city with loved ones, but the only downside was it's been a little tricky to finish the kitchen with so many people here! One thing we did take care of shortly after moving in was buying a new range. Here's the before shot:


Well, actually, it is a used range. The landlord gave us money to replace the ancient stove. Not enough to buy a new Viking (the range I'd been dreaming of for years), but I was happy to find this one in perfect used condition. It had been used in a summer house for a few years, and had been recently professionally serviced. We paid $1000 for it, but the landlord picked up most of the bill, so it was a total score. Happiness all around!


PS Tonight I'm putting the last coat of paint on the cabinets (you can see a little sneak peek above)!

    As a Mississippi girl and Mississippi State University Alum... it makes me so happy to see that you chose a viking! (the man who started viking appliances went to Mississippi State, and manufactures them in Mississippi delta!) If your ever in Mississippi they offer amazing cooking classes!!!

    Jenny, I know you're probably going to write a book about your ability to DIY design, etc; but seriously, you should write a book on how you find the greatest deals! How do you do it? You are probably the most resourceful person I have ever known (even though I don't know you)!! :) My dream one day too is to own a viking range!

    Can't wait to see it! Can you also let us know if/how you restored the countertop? I have similar ones that look a lot like yours in the "before" picture. I'd love to attack some of the burn and rust marks.

    Love your new range. I've had Viking ranges and ovens for almost 20 years and they have held up perfectly under my intense cooking. In all those years, we've only had to service the oven once to fix the broiler pilot light. Your Viking should hold up well especially since it's been tuned up.

    Now I can't say the same for Viking refridgerators or dishwashers. You couldn't pay me to buy either ever again. I'm patiently waiting for my Viking fridge to die so I can get a different one.

    I sure hope you're going to share the name of the paint color you used for your lower cabinets if you haven't already. It looks like the perfect bluegreygreen shade. Can't wait to see the whole kitchen completed.

    I can't wait to see the reveal!! Am I correct in thinking you guys are renters? Does the landlord give you a rent break because of all of the improvements you make in the space? Your work is wonderful!
