PSA: Roman Shades at Lowes

I found some really inexpensive white cotton roman shades at Lowes over the summer that we used in our playroom. The 48x72" size was a steal at about $30 each.

My mom and I went to Lowe's yesterday to pick up a few for her bedroom refresh and, SURPRISE! Yellow stickers everywhere. They were on crazy clearance. Every size is between $2.50 and $13!!!!

We picked up some really soft, gauzey white ones for my mom's room (which is turning out so pretty, btw!). We were really tempted by this cute stripe though.

I just got back home last night and first thing this morning I went and filled up a cart with shades. We have a bunch of random windows that need shades and I can't believe I was able to buy everything I needed for less than $50! Insane.

It looks like they are on sale online, but I think the real deals are in-store, so get thee to Lowes!

  1. It's likely that Lowe's is discontinuing this line because it no longer complies with the Consumer Protection Safety Commission's guidelines for corded window coverings. See Lowe's disclaimer:
WARNING: The cords on this product present a potential strangulation hazard. For child safety, consider cordless alternatives or products with inaccessible cords.
Please don't use these products in homes where children play and sleep.

  2. Thank you so much. I went to Lowe's and found enough of the same bambo shades that you got for my familyroom. They are going to look amazing. I am so thrilled. Thanks tons, I bought 7 and only spent $28. Unreal.

  6. What a timely post! I literally just measured all of the windows in my new home last night so I could order new shades today. I guess I have a trip to Lowe's in my future!

  7. I showed the sales clerk your post and he just kept shaking his head and said, "Not here. I don't know where that is, but their aren't any $2 blinds here." :(

  8. Looks like from what you guys are saying and the Instagrammers, we're having mixed results with finding these! I wonder if it's a state by state thing? My mom lives about three hours away from me and her Lowes had tons. I went to two Lowes in my area this morning and both had a great selection on clearance.

Hoping it helps some of you - and sorry for the fruitless wild goose chase I'm sending some of you on! :/

  10. Thanks so much. I ordered some using the pick up in store option. 5 bamboo shades for $18.01!!!! I plan to use them for looks only so I will just tie the cords up at the top. No worry about my little one getting wrapped up in them.

  11. I went to my local Lowes (north central IN) after seeing this post. Ours were deeply discounted too though nothing was $3. The cheapest I got was the 23" at around $5. Some of the other widths were still $22 although that was down from around $30.

This was a very timely post as I just bought a house about a month ago and am still living with no window treatments. I had planned to make a trip out to Ikea this weekend (a 2 hr drive for me) but even then I was looking at spending $600 on the windows. Still really cheap I know but money is super tight. Thanks to this Lowes tip I got shades for every window in the entire house for a bit less than $300. I'll still want drapes down the road as I like the layered look but this was a huge step to making this place look like a proper home. Thank you so much!

  14. I have both the white cotton, Roman Shade and the 'grass' shade pictured on the right in the last photo. Both have been great. I especially love the 'grass' shade--it has a translucent, gold, shimmery liner that filters sun beautifully. Lucky you to find such a good deal!

  15. Kristie, I have had some of your concern about the outside view but finally put them on all my windows. When all the windows look the same from outside, I don't mind it at all. But I think it would bother me from the front of the house if each window looked different from outside. (But that's just me!). And mine were special ordered from Lowes and cut to fit about 6 months ago and not nearly such a great deal, so I would go for it for such a bargain:-)

  18. I picked several up here in SC, but they were in the $5-9 range, not quite $2.50, but still a bargain!

  19. Different prices at different stores reflect mark-down money the store is allotted. Some stores get more mark-down money than others so that's why there are different prices.

  20. went to my Lowe's today. Prices weren't as heavily discounted, and yet almost everything white is gone. Oh well. Next time. Thanks for the heads up.

  21. I, too, love these Roman shades from Lowes. My hubby and I used them for several rooms in our home when we moved in about 5 years ago. However, I hate to report that we are in the process of replacing all of them as we speak. The white shades are yellowing and the dust they are creating is infuriating. It's like the back of the shades are disintegrating. We try to keep up with cleaning them, but they just haven't worked for us. Jenny, did we do something wrong in caring for them? How do you maintain them looking clean and the back lining not dusting up/falling apart??? We love the look of them but can't take how bad they look and the dust they create. Please help!

  22. Jenny!! I am so seriously stoked about these shades I literally dropped everything and ran to Lowes so I could purchase them today. I have been working on a kitchen reno/update for awhile now (nearly a year) and I was looking for white roman shades for the windows and back door, the gauze ones were perfect!! Also side note, I intend to do a section of my counter-tops in your black concrete like your kitchen. I was wondering how they are holding up so far and if you have any tips for a first timer that I wouldn't already know from your posts, which I have of course read ;) I love your blog and follow it religiously thanks so much for making such awesome inspiring posts!!

  25. Thank you so much! We redecorated our master bedroom and guest room recently and I have been wanting to get rid of the old miniblinds and change them to woven roman blinds. I have to buy the ones that are lined (and more expensive) because the rooms face east and the sunlight filtering through unlined ones would prevent us from sleeping in on weekends. That was an expense I have been putting off. I went to Lowe's after I saw your post and I found dark brown fabric roman shades that will work perfectly! They were regularly priced at $34.97 each and I got them for about $10.50 each!! My store only had 3 so I had to drive to the next nearest store to get one more that I needed. I saved about $100! More savings if I consider the price I would have paid for lined woven shades. I am thrilled that I have found a much more affordable option! Thanks, again!

  26. I went to Lowes and the two ladies who work in the window treatment department were just putting the shades on the clearance cart. They advised against buying them as they said the hardware breaks. Even though they were cheap, they said "don't waste your money".
