My Parents' Kitchen Remodel

I'm so excited to share photos of my parents' new kitchen with you today! This was an extra fun project to work on and not only because I really love the clients. ;) We got to completely reconfigure the way this space feels and functions.

For before photos, here is a very old post to check out, and here is a post from when we were in the middle of the remodel.

The shaker style cabinets are custom full overlay, painted in Swiss Coffee. The pulls and knobs are Restoration Hardware and the countertops are macaubus quartzite from Arizona Tile. The backsplash tile is from Floor & Decor. The long runner was an eBay find.

It was fun to be able to customize the drawer components (especially in the island) and the appliance garage area in the pantry wall.

Both of the polished nickel faucets are from Signature Hardware. The smaller single hole faucet on the prep sink is actually from their bathroom line. :)

The wood floors are by Provenza from their Heirloom collection. The barstools are from Overstock and the island pendants are from Rejuvenation.

I loved working on this project, but I love getting to use the kitchen even more! The new layout makes it so our whole family can be in here cooking and hanging out - two of our favorite things. :)

PS I've expanded the team and we're taking on design projects in Arizona and California! Email me if you're interested in working together!

  1. This is truly stunning. Your parents must be SO happy (and so proud of you, of course :-)!!!

I especially love all the details, like the gorgeous backsplash... It looks totally labor-intensive though, so I don't even want to know how much that cost. Haha.

  8. Just beautiful! How has the wear of marble been as a backsplash? I have a contractor trying to talk me out of it in my kitchen due to staining. I have 4 kids that like to cook (Ages 8-16). Any recommendations?

  9. This is a beautiful kitchen! I especially love the floors. They remind me of my grandmother's floors. She bought plain pine planks from the lumber yard, installed herself, sanded, buffed and sealed them. (A project I can hardly believe she tackled.) They were so wonderful for so many years that I want to do it myself when we buy a home.

  13. This looks beautiful! You said the cabinets were custom overlays - did you hire a carpenter to build them? Did the carpenter build the drawers and everything as well?

    Thanks!

  14. Really beautiful! I like the pantry wall and appliance garage situation, adding that to the stew of ideas I'm kicking around for my kitchen remodel next year. I'd love more information on the cabinet overlays. One of the big things I'm debating is whether to go with painted or natural wood cabinets, any if you have any insight to share regarding how to get a really durable painted finish, I'd appreciate it. All that herringbone tiled is pretty inspirational, too!

  15. So beautiful...scrolled all the way through before realizing I wasn't reading because the kitchen is so pretty! Love how you handled the outlets, very smart. Great work and thanks for sharing with us (and thanks to your parents for sharing their home with us, too!).

  16. What a lovely room! Is it customary in the US to have two sinks in the kitchen? Are they used similarly or do they each have a specific purpose?

  17. A very lovely kitchen to be sure. I would caution those who are working on their kitchens to carefully consider using marble or other stone on a breakfast bar. We rented a vacation home in Santa Cruz, CA for two years that had a marble breakfast bar (and counters). Although it looked great the surface was always cold to the touch. I was constantly rolling my sleeves down as the cold on my forearms drove me crazy. We have a metal top on our dining room farm table and it has the same problem. Not a deal breaker, maybe, but thought it was worth mentioning.

  18. There is noticeably much to know on the subject of this. I think you created some excellent points in Features also.

  21. I love the choice of Swiss Coffee for the cabinets. Is it a true white or does it have creamy undertones?

  30. So beautiful!!! Wish PA was on the list too so my sisters and I could surprise our parents with a kitchen reno ;-)

When it comes to hardware, any recommendations on finishes for medium/darker stains? (Ours has hints of red from the wood we used). My hubby is due back from his deployment in a few weeks and we're resuming work on a dresser we are building. We're at a loss for hardware though!
