I had planned to get custom shades made for the Gossip Girl sconces, but every place I called wanted $60-$120 PER SHADE!! What?
So when I stumbled across these vintage chandelier shades at the Chelsea flea, I snatched them up for only a couple dollars.
So when I stumbled across these vintage chandelier shades at the Chelsea flea, I snatched them up for only a couple dollars.
The shades are sort of wrapped in silk cording, which gives them a super cool texture. I thought about dying them a fun color, but I actually like the more neutral gray-beige.
They have a floral, organic feel to them. My mom said they sort of look like mushrooms now with the new shades which I can totally see. I love them!
It is perfect arrangement of each and every stuffs. The crave of every furniture is very simple but stylish. Well, in second photograph, is such a beautiful outdoor living furniture is designed with classic style wicker furniture is wearing a traditional style.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE that yellow door sorry I know off topic :)
ReplyDeleteThey do look like mushrooms! I really like the combinations of colors of the doors, bookcase and the blue armchair. I'm no expert but to my taste if the shades were any more colorful perhaps it could overload the whole composition a little bit? I would leave them as they are. great find!
ReplyDeleteDon't die them...they look so good greige! Your home is coming along so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteYou have styled the bookcases with great care - the color and gathered accessories work werll together. I agree with some earlier posters, if the shades were dyed there would be too much color competing.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you've sucessfully made graet style look easy - though we all know how much effort goes into each component. :)
It's been such fun to watch this GG Sconce journey with you! Love these shades...they bring a tangible feel to them...and I LOVE the gold mirror!
ReplyDeleteI love them! And really love seeing pictures of your beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why it pays to wait, right? Your flea market shades are so unique, too.
ReplyDeleteYour bookcase looks fabulous, Jenny. I love how fearless you are with blending colors and patterns.
I love love the sconces and the rest of the room! You did a wonderful job decorating this space. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteThey look great! Love them next to your yellow door!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty view of your room. I love all the different colors working together. I am curious if you adapted the wiring yourself to plug in?
ReplyDeleteThose sconces are fantastic. I really love the texture of the shades. And I am swooning over the yellow door as well.
ReplyDeleteLove the sconces - they look great! Random question, but do you know much about your gilt mirror - I found one almost identical to it at an estate sale and didn't know anything about it's history - era? etc?
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal!
ReplyDeleteWhen I had the sconces made, I asked them to be plug-in style. I also had them made shorter than the original sconces so they would fit that wall. I like the original size and the hard wire look much better, but at the end of the day, the sconces need to work for this wall. :)
xx
Hi Katie!
ReplyDeleteI don't know the maker of the mirror, but it's midcentury Regency style for sure.
They're not super rare, but still kind of special I think.
Here's a post I did on mine:

yep, i like the natural color too. and that yellow door? i'm dying!!!
ReplyDeletepinning now for home inspiration. :)
Sorry for this unrelated comment: That yellow door goes to your girls bedroom... But the wall doesn't go all the way up. Does that make it difficult to do anything after they go to bed? The noise level, I mean... I'm so curious about loft/Manhattan living :-)

Hi Jenny. This is Emily from Cincinnati. I love how your space is coming together!! It reminds me of Kate Spade! Little hints of black, gold and green and lots of color! I love all the colors! Every detail is beautiful! I love your mix of cherished keepsakes, revived vintage pieces, and new trendy pieces. I'm very inspired! A few days ago I picked up the honeycomb mirror from pier one on clearance :) to use in my own space because I love how it looks in your house! Thanks for sharing all your great ideas and talent with us!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - keep them as they are. I love the soft, organic color. Mushroom perfection; I think they are the perfect touch to an otherwise colorful corner.
ReplyDeleteI say this a lot, but your space is looking so darn good! Love the old-feel sconces paired next to that fresh yellow door. It all works so well. Eclectic done right!
ReplyDeleteThis room is great! I love every little detail, and the lamp shades are perfect for the space!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! The yellow door looks AMAZING!!! Its such a standout that I could barely think about the sconce shades (although I think they're perfect and just the subtlety needed between the bright blue chair and yellow door).
ReplyDeleteThe shades are a perfect complement to the things in that room. I love them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have that exact mirror in my home! It was a castaway from my in laws a few years ago. They couldn't believe I wanted it. :)
I discovered your blog a couple months ago, and have loved all of the inspiring things you do. You are a genuine and talented writer and decorator... Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful projects, thoughts and ideas.

I love everything...except the Reader's Digest books! Are they...some kind of family keepsake or something? What is that about?
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE that yellow door. I must have a yellow door like that in my house! Sorry, off topic.
ReplyDeleteYour home is looking so beautiful and I love how there is an instructive and interesting blog post about every item.
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool to look at that last photo and think, "oh yeah, I remember that great post on book case styling," and "oh, I also remember about the moldings on that yellow door." As someone else commented, the GG sconces alone have been a fun journey.
Thanks for your inspiring blog!
Jenny, I'm so glad you finished your project! The space came together beautifully and the sconces just added the perfect touch!

Just found this thru pinterest. Love! I think they look great un-dyed. I'm really loving the whole bookshelf arrangement in general.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in your home! I'm curious, in the first pic we can see the tv area of your place. Could you show us more of that area? It's just that I find decorating around a tv challenging and would like to know your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI really like the combinations of colors of the doors, bookcase and the blue armchair. You have very good and best styled the bookcases with great care.
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE THE STRIPED RUG! Yes, this is all caps b/c I'm yelling! Your place is coming together so beautifully! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe interior looks good as well as the lights, I like the colour of the room too - it's inspired me to use http://mydeco.com/3d-planner/ to design a similar sort of room thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think I have that same mirror, shape size and everything... or it just looks very similar. This gives me a great idea of what to do with it now!
ReplyDeleteThat blue chair is beautiful. I like its fabric so much, also superb combination of perfect colors of the doors, bookcase and the blue armchair. Colourful arrangement.
