Chesterfield Sofas

Hi guys! Alt Summit has been mid-blowing, like it is every year. I spoke with Emily from HGTV, Kirsten from Simply Grove and Morgan from the Brick House and it was so, SO fun. Love those ladies.

In between chatting with bloggers and tweeting about Alt, I've been negotiating with drivers from Uship.com to pick up a beautiful camel Chesterfield sofa in North Carolina and drop it off to me in NY. Have you ever used U Ship? So far, so good. I got a bid for $150, which seems more than fair considering gas prices.

I really lucked out and found this sofa on eBay for a fraction of the cost of new Chesterfields. The buttery camel colored leather is *exactly* what I was looking for. I couldn't believe my luck!

Chesterfield sofas are SO classic to me! I can't wait for ours to arrive early next week. I think even Michael's jazzed about this purchase. I love how masculine AND girly these pieces can be. And the broken in leather? It's so pretty and it's basically kid proof!

I'll be sure to report once the sofa comes in, but in the meantime, here are a couple more Chesterfield inspiration shots...

  3. Beautiful! I use U-Ship frequently for my business-- they are mostly very good, although like any type of delivery service there are snags and you might end up taking delivery in the middle of the night. The other company I work with, TSC Movers, does not come past about 8 pm, but a U-Ship driver may roll in at 1 am. I have a hilarious story involving a one-armed, string-bikini-top-wearing, rodeo-clown-horse-transporting U-Ship load...however, the goods will get there much more quickly than with TSC (the other great company to move antique and vintage pieces)-- usually in just a few days.

  4. Jenny — I live in NC and have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced Chesterfield for a few months. I actually saw that one listed on craigslist, but didn't buy it because it has a missing button. I had no idea what it might take to repair it. I'd love to know what your plans are.

  5. My husband and I ordered a chesterfield from England as our first real piece of furniture together. I've always loved it and it is so versatile. We have the traditional seat design so it isn't made for "flopping" on the sofa but I love that even more. I'm not an oversize recliner sofa person :)

  6. I just love the look of chesterfields. Alas, I can't fit one up the stairs into my condo. And it would be too big if I got it in here. So I admire them from afar! I love the picture of the gray chesterfield with the fuchsia accents. What a great blend of masculine and feminine!

  11. Hey Shannon! The seller has the missing buttons and is sending them with the sofa. It's an easy fix using a long upholstery needle and a staple gun. Maybe I'll do a post about it?

  12. Great sofa...what a find! Looks like it is in perfect condition. You've given me a fresh idea for my living room. I love the follow-up pictures of the different style. Wonderful post.
    Have a great weekend,

  13. I love chesterfields. They are so classic and yours looks so great. My hubby would be very happy too if somethings like that came to live at our house.

  14. We've had that same sofa for years and love it. Yes, it's kid proof - but not cat proof. Wish I knew what to do to for that area other than ignore it. Any ideas?

  15. Wow Jenny - That is the very same sofa my fiance sent me a picture of, as the seller posted it on Craigslist. We both loved it, but in the end felt it wasn't practical for our first apartment. I'll admit I'm a bit envious now :), but cannot wait to see pictures of it in your home!

  17. I have 2 vintage 1950's black ones at the design store I work at in New Orleans. We actually RENT them to the movies ALL the time! The leather just gets better with age. Here's a link to see ours:

  18. I like those sofas but I find those tufting holes are just traps for crumbs, lint, and loose change. That would be my only concern--that you'll have to stay on top of it using the vacuum attachment!!

  20. That looks like a perfect size for an apartment. Am I right in thinking that it's not one of the oversized ones?

How beautiful. I've been looking at ebay for one for years in that color. Don't know how I missed this one!

And a blanket over the seat will catch the crumbs. That's my advice on all sofas, tufted or not. :)

  22. Jenny - FOR REAL?! OMG.

that color leather is the MOST amazing and lust-worthy ever.

    Great Score!!

  30. all time fave. how much was shipping on something like that? I feel like you have written about how you get ebay stuff without paying an arm and leg in shipping.

  32. I love chesterfield sofas. I've been obsessing over the one at West Elm. Yours looks great, that's exciting!

  35. I forget to tell you one detail about being a chestfild owner. It made me laugh this morning while doing this chore but you have to vacuum each tuft when you clean and the only thing it reminds me of is a million belly buttons with lint.... Sorry for the image but a hand vac works best :)

  36. I've used UShip twice. They are by far the least expensive option out there. The providers are usually truck drivers/commercial drivers that do a set route and have some extra space. They delivered a Pottery Barn chair and a half from Brooklyn to Ohio and an Ethan Allen bed plus nightstand from Dallas to Houston. Item arrived on time and in perfect condition. All I can say is good things about them!

  37. Love Chesterfield sofas, and broken in leather sounds very appealing! Quite an unusual colour compared to what I have seen, and can't wait to see what you do with it (:

  38. Gorgeous! I love the fabric ones but I bet the leather will be great too.

  39. Such a beautiful design the chesterfield dahhling...great choice.

  40. That is a classic sofa. Never used U-ship before. Let us know how it goes.

  41. Jenny! My hubby just surprised me with one. It's in velvet and champaign color. But wait!!!! What's with the name change?!?!? No more pearl st.? And I noticed your "contact" link isn't working or is it just me? Will you fill us in on the big change?

  42. Is there any other style that's more universal? Seriously! I have loved Chesterfields as long as I can remember. They are totally classic and look equally at home in modern or traditional spaces.

    Love the one you got!

  43. They are gorgeous Sofas, a timeless classic. I don't think anything is ever "Kid Proof", as they will always find a way to destroy something:)

  44. Omg. I'm right there with you on chesterfield sofas. They are so ridiculously amazing and happen to be the perfect balance of masculine/feminine. Dying to add one to our home. Can't wait to see pics!

  46. It is lovely! I love chesterfields as well. We have one in a light linen in our formal living room, and its just delightful. I actually got it from an outlet in NC and then tried to find a more economical shipping option (at the time i think it was $250 or so, and we're out in CT). Our uship quotes were not much better so I just used the company recommended by the shipper as I've used them before and had all good experiences.

  47. I'm so jealous! My next sofa has to be a Chesterfield.

  48. Wow $150??!! I have listed my first shipment on uship for a dining table,in the meantime I have read a lot of mixed reviews most of them not so good. So far the "best" quote I have received is for $200 and that is to have the table shipped from the UES, Manhatten upstate to Albany! were you happy with the results? The way payment is handled seems somewhat sketchy as most of the shippers want to be paid directly at time of delivery and uship wants to collect payment prior to
